Job Description:

What will you work on?
The Entertainment Lawyer works directly with Entertainment’s Development, Production and Licensing/Distribution Teams to ensure all legal and business affairs issues – from negotiations and agreements to copyright protections, insurance policies, rights management matters, credits and clearances – are resolved professionally, optimally and efficiently.

This role is a temporary position with benefits, tied to production timelines and deliverables. Opportunity to turn into full time regular role.
How will you create impact?

  • Draft and negotiate contracts, legal clearances, obtain insurance policies, track and advise on contractual obligations.
  • Liaise regarding tax credit compliance and eligibility, financial review of contracts, internal financing and structuring of productions.
  • Service Provider Contract negotiations, drafting and tracking.
  • Union compliance management and signatory process.
  • Rights Management, creative negotiations with multiple third parties to achieve necessary split of rights. Advising leaders of rights and restrictions.
  • High volume of contracts required on urgent basis.

What are your skills and experience?

  • J.D. or LL.B. degree Licensed to practice law in Ontario (or another Province of Canada) and in good standing
  • 4-10 years working in a film or television legal and business affairs department and/or entertainment law firm.
