RESPONSIBILITIES
A Project Engineer will collaborate with our building envelope expertise team in evaluating products and systems performance in the lab conditions.
As a Building Science Project Handler your primary duties, under minimal supervision, will be to performs a variety of test set-up, test construction, and conduct tests within areas of responsibility where knowledge of the underlying mechanical and structural engineering fundamentals is required.
These may include tests and set-ups without published requirements, or those involving unique features that require the use of independent judgement. Execute test plan and evaluate test results based on test procedure or as directed by the supervisor or senior engineering team. Provides feedback regarding tests, data sheets and reports.Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve the client's objectives consistent with the scope of services to be provided.
- Work with senior UL staff to deliver and exceed client expectations within the scope of the project.
- Participate in coordination meetings and prepare test reports.
- Receives instruction and collaborate with senior engineer team members in integration and execution of continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Record observation or calculated data on appropriate, prepares data sheets, generate reports and other documentations, client communication, coordinate projects.
- Maintain project records and documentation.
- Ability to setup and operate test equipment, instrumentation, and other mechanical and structural set-ups.
- Builds and/or adaptation of test setup and test equipment to new situations, based on project requirements and /or instructions from senior engineering personnel.
- Operates designated machines and special laboratory equipment. Performs routine maintenance of test equipment and laboratory area.
- Conduct lab consumable inventory and upkeep as necessary.
- Proficient at using hand and power tools and basic construction.
- Comfortable and have ability in safely operating machinery such as forklift, scissor lift, telescopic boom would be an asset.
- Performs other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology or diploma from a recognized three-years technology program (mechanical, civil, building engineering or a related discipline) or minimum 3 years direct relevant work experience.
- 3 years relevant building science work experience would be an asset.
- Must have a strong mechanical and structural aptitude/background.
- Good knowledge of all building systems such as architectural and building envelope assemblies would be definite asset.
- Must have the ability to work in physically demanding environments.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects, work at heights and work in tight areas.
- The candidate must be able to work individually or with a team, in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to write technical documents along with excellent oral and written English language skills.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate with team members and customers.
- Have professionalism and good manner with team members and or clients.
- Ability to resolve problems involving several variables in standardized situations where specific decision-making guidelines exist.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and/or other software.
- Demonstrates a basic knowledge of common laboratory tests and equipment used within the building envelope industry.
- Comfortable and have ability to work at heights. "Working at Heights" experience would be an asset but not required.
This is an onsite role, expectations to be in the Toronto location 5 days a week.
