This position will be part of the North America Employee Relations Management team responsible for developing and maintaining a positive, valuable, consultative relationship with business leaders and HR colleagues regarding various employee matters. The ER Specialist will primarily handle ER (Employee Relations) issues and concerns via a phone- based model and support multiple businesses throughout North America.

This position will manage and administer a broad range of tasks including:  the interpretation of policies and procedures in employee relation matters, coaching and advising leaders and employees on all performance management issues including attendance, conduct and performance;  maintaining compliance with policies and applicable employment laws,  investigate and assist in the resolution and advancement of employee complaints, allegations, and terminations, as well as the creation, support and facilitation of training on key Employee Relations issues.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide expert advice, support, and consultation on a broad range of employee and labour relations matters to management staff.

  • Development and interpretation of policies and procedures regarding employee relations matters.

  • Perform thorough employee and complaint investigations; obtain relevant documentation and data by conducting interviews; take the necessary steps to resolve issues on behalf of the Company.

  • Provide consultation and resolution guidance that promotes a positive work environment for Amex GBT employees.

  • Responsible to support activities and tasks related to reorganization and reductions in force.  

  • Facilitate training for leaders on best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances. Develops and conducts further training as needed.

  • Assist in analysis of casework trends, survey results, employee critical issues and complaints to determine areas of focus for improving the work environment and culture.  

  • Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding human resource policies, compensation, and other employment issues. After analyzing the information, makes recommendations on changes.

  • Researches and explains laws and legal affairs concerning employment to managers, supervisors, and employees.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

  • Thorough understanding of provincial legislation and understanding of Canadian employment law (Or simply put: A working knowledge of labour and employment laws).

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.

  • Creative in designing training, writing policies and implementing solutions to various matters.

  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.

  • Familiarity with government regulations related to functional areas.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects, meet established deadlines and handle change as business needs require.

  • Strong investigation skills, acts with a sense of urgency in addressing sensitive matters.

  • Bilingualism (French and English) written and spoken.

  • Four years of professional human resource administration, including two years in employee relations preferred OR its equivalent through training, education, and other experience. PHR or CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) certification preferred.

  • Experience in HR consulting role with a demonstrated ability to influence without authority.
