Department Overview
The Video Hardware Engineering Team at Motorola Solutions (MSI) is chartered to design fixed video surveillance cameras and body worn cameras.
Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and talented Electronic Hardware Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team in delivering mission-critical fixed surveillance cameras. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with Video SoC architectures and high-speed memory interfaces, moving beyond theoretical design into the rigorous world of hardware validation and performance optimization.

This internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial hardware execution. As part of our team, you will:

  • Master the Interface: Develop a profound understanding of the critical link between high-performance SoCs and high-speed memory (DDR4/LPDDR4/5).

  • Hands-on Validation: Utilize advanced lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) to conduct signal integrity testing and hardware bring-up.

  • Memory Tuning: Assist in the fine-tuning of memory timings and parameters to ensure system stability and peak performance under heavy video processing loads.

  • Real-World Stress Testing: Validate hardware against complex, real-world test cases to ensure reliability in extreme environments.

Basic Requirements

Education & Technical Knowledge

  • Academic Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Circuit Fundamentals: Strong understanding of digital and analog circuit design

  • Computer Architecture: Familiarity with SoC (System-on-Chip) architecture, specifically how CPUs/GPUs interact with external memory will be added advantage.

  • High-Speed Basics: Basic knowledge of transmission line theory and signal integrity concepts (e.g., crosstalk, impedance matching, reflections).

Hands-on Skills

  • Lab Equipment: Familiarity with standard laboratory tools, such as Digital Oscilloscopes (DSOs), Multimeters, and Function Generators.

  • Schematic Interpretation: Ability to read and understand complex hardware schematics and PCB layout files.

  • Prototyping: Basic soldering skills and experience with breadboarding or hardware debugging are a plus.

Preferred Software & Tools

  • EDA Tools: Exposure to PCB design software such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or KiCad.

  • Scripting: Basic proficiency in Python or C for automating hardware tests or analyzing data logs.

Soft Skills & Professionalism

  • Analytical Mindset: A methodical approach to troubleshooting and "breaking" hardware to find its limits.

  • Documentation: Strong technical writing skills for creating test reports and validation logs.

  • Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team of firmware and mechanical engineers.
