Your Opportunity  

Our Markham office has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) within our Transportation Group. This is a dynamic role where your engineering expertise will strengthen and grow on a diverse range of transportation projects.
 

The Electrical Designer/EIT will work within a multidisciplinary team environment to design efficient and reliable electrical systems for Infrastructure, Transportation and Transit projects. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Electrical Engineer and Project Manager in designing and executing electrification projects across these sectors. Electrical design will include normal and emergency power distribution system, interior and exterior building lighting systems, roadway and street lighting system, traffic signal systems, and extra-low voltage systems such as fire alarm, telecommunications, security access control, CCTV, instrumentation, and SCADA systems. The role also involves supporting the execution of various transit and transportation infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials 

  • Participate in feasibility and strategic studies related to the electrification of public transit networks.
  • Apply best practices and identify innovative solutions through engineering analyses and studies.
  • Design electrical substations, including equipment specification and grounding system design.
  • Prepare technical memos and reports to communicate results and recommendations.
  • Liaise with project team members and other stakeholders regarding project requirements.
  • Prepare engineering design drawings, layouts, and specifications, which include but are not limited to single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, protection systems, equipment lists, cable and panel schedules, and emergency power distribution systems.
  • Perform lighting level calculations using software such as AGi32, AutoLUX, etc.
  • Conduct short circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies using ETAP or similar power systems analysis software.
  • Apply electrical safety codes and regulations to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Incorporate safety and risk analysis into equipment designs.
  • Work independently with minimal instruction and supervision; make decisions and take responsibility for technical matters with input from senior engineers and project managers.
  • Coordinate with various disciplines and sub-consultants to ensure the technical integrity of engineering design solutions delivered by other teams.

Education And Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 6 months previous experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered as an EIT in the Province of Ontario or ability to obtain within the next 6 months.
  • Experience or strong interest in electrical systems design, construction, and transit and/or transportation system design is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, electrical engineering modeling software such as ETAP, and lighting design software such as AutoLUX or AGi32 is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
