Job Responsibilities:
- Develop/modify and deliver Health and Safety Training programs in-house.
- Follow-up sessions to take place, where appropriate, for each job/department.
- Maintain and update Health and Safety Orientation Program and conduct Orientation and GHS/WHMIS training for all existing employees as well as all new hires.
- Maintain the Emergency Response, Machine Entrapment, and Fire Safety Plan Programs and provide training when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, address safety concerns, and oversee incident investigations and reporting
- Assist Human Resources Manager and employee's Supervisor with CO-EX-TEC's modified work, light duties, work hardening, step-up and return to work programs for injured/sick workers under the Return-to-Work Program.
- Provide the MOL/MOECC with documentation upon request and accompany representative(s) on any plant audit.
- Actively participate in approval of all new equipment and process design.
- Maintain all Physical Demands analysis and hazard assessments.
- Maintain all ergonomic assessment information and work with manufacturing related departments to ensure ergonomic assessments and action items are in place.
- Coordinate occupational hygiene assessments and ensure air and noise sampling are conducted when required
- Assist with conducting accident investigations and ensure full closure of action items.
- Assist with WSIB Claims Management.
- Conduct Respirator Fit Testing when necessary.
- Assist with the coordination of hearing tests, pulmonary tests, forklift medicals, etc. Assist in ensuring all employees adhere to applicable legislative requirements.
- Develop preventative procedures / methods to reduce and / or eliminate health and safety accidents.
- Conduct annual ISO 45001/ISO 14001 Health and Safety Management System Internal Audits.
- Conduct safety reviews, create risk assessments and associated work instructions of work cells. Maintain the SDS database.
- Route new or updated SDSs to appropriate personnel to keep them well informed.
- Responsible for follow-through and follow-up of implementations with engineers, process improvement engineers, production supervisors, production managers, and tool/equipment makers, etc.
- Promote and ensure Quality Management System (IATF16949), Environmental Management System (ISO14001), and security (CTPAT/PIP) compliance within the department.
- Promote and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices and the observance of protective equipment requirements at all times.
- Update/create lockout procedures & safety checklists
- Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Any other reasonable duty required by Management. Expected requirements based on ISO 14001/ISO 45001:
- To develop and ensure that the EHSMS is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the ISO14001-2015/ISO 45001-2018
- Maintain data and document control for ISO 14001 and health and safety operating system; ISO 45001.
- Manage safety and environmental training, lead key initiatives (e.g., Joint Health & Safety Committee, ISO 14001/45001), and liaise with regulatory agencies To report to Top Management and Department Managers on the EHSMS performance and provide recommendations for improvement
- To provide guidance on the implementation of the EHSMS requirements
- To ensure that the Department Managers and employees understood this procedure and all relevant Environmental procedures
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Human Resources Manager or designate.
- Participate in Energy Reduction, MAFACT, and Safety Groups Initiatives.
- Comply with the applicable responsibilities related to effective quality management in accordance with CO-EX-TEC's Quality Management System (QMS) IATF 16949.
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team, ensuring team performance and alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide necessary training and ensure compliance with company safety policies.
- Develop and manage the EHS department budget.
- Lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee and Ergonomics program, conduct ergonomic assessments, and respond to reports of injuries and accidents.
- Ensure a safe environment for employees and visitors by maintaining safety and housekeeping standards.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead by example by following CET'S Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Follow the guidelines and rules as set out by the Employee Handbook and CET policies and procedures.
- Ensure knowledge obtained during training is applied.
- Co-ordinate, and maintain emergency evacuation plan, including drills.
- Inform the Human Resources Manager of any repairs required to machines or other equipment.
- Support all plant TS & ISO initiatives & requirements.
- Apply good housekeeping standards and maintain work environment in a clean and safe condition, adhering to applicable health and safety issues.
- Ensure the Human Resources Manager is made aware of any uncertainty you may have regarding the operation of equipment, machine or device prior to beginning work.
- Comply with the designated responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with CET Environmental Management System (EMS).
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
PERFORMANCE MEASURES: - Bachelor's degree in safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
