The Opportunity
As a dedicated Director, Transformation Engagement, you will lead the agile center of excellence function at USAA. This role requires a strategic problem solver with strong leadership skills and a proven track record in leading sophisticated change initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of technology delivery methods, business agility, change management, and the ability to influence and collaborate with partners at all levels.
The Director, Transformation Engagement leads and manages resources to ensure effective execution of large-scale organizational transformations and associated programs/projects aligned with business strategies. This leader provides program oversight, mentors teams, resolves integration issues, and drives organizational change. They also develop and implement strategic initiatives that drive growth and transformation, foster innovation, and manage change in complex and rapidly changing environments, while overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple programs and projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and stakeholder expectations.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio; TX, Plano; TX, Phoenix; AZ, Charlotte; NC, Tampa; FL, Colorado Springs; CO. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Leads the development, integration, and transformation of business programs and initiatives to achieve strategic goals, leveraging best practices in program and project management, supported by modern technologies and tools.
Manages the overall program roadmap, including scope, schedule, and OKRs for complex, strategic programs. Define and control work effort delivery to meet goals, objectives, and success criteria.
Facilitates sequencing, prioritization, and scheduling for programs and work efforts to optimize resource allocation and efficiency.
Adheres to governance rigor (EPMO processes, procedures, controls, standards, tools, and templates). Establish a communication cadence to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
Drives the adoption and sustainment of changes across the organization, ensuring compliance with the Change Management methodology and maximizing user adoption and proficiency.
Develops and integrate change strategies, continuously evaluate and refine change management practices, and ensure the sustainability of change initiatives through follow-up action plans and measurement. Coach and influence senior executives to lead change effectively.
Provides expert consultation to program executives and senior management on program planning and execution, recommending process improvements and facilitating alignment.
Develops and educates employees at all levels on program, project, and change management, including design thinking. Build and sustain key relationships with stakeholders and manage a highly matrixed environment.
Builds, manages, and develops a high-performing team through effective talent acquisition, ongoing coaching, performance management, and mentorship, fostering skill growth and enabling the adoption of new competencies across the organization.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
8 years of experience in program/ project management and/or organizational change management.
6 years of experience working in an Agile environment (Lean or Scrum), with at least 2 years of focused experience in Lean Portfolio Management.
3 years of direct team lead or management experience.
Experience in Strategic Transformation and/or Program Leadership: Proven experience leading strategic transformation initiatives or large-scale programs with significant impact on the organization. Demonstrated ability to define program scope, objectives, and success criteria, as well as to develop and execute comprehensive program plans.
Strong understanding of Lean Portfolio Management Principles: Including experience of the principles and methodologies of lean portfolio management. Demonstrated ability to use LPM frameworks to align strategy with execution.
Expertise in Risk Management: Demonstrated experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with projects, programs, and organizational change initiatives. This includes the ability to develop and implement risk management plans, conduct thorough risk assessments, and proactively identify and address potential issues to minimize disruption and ensure successful program delivery.
Demonstrated Ability to Influence and Drive Change at the Executive Level: Proven track record of influencing business decisions and driving organizational change, including experience working directly with C-level executives and senior leaders on major transformation initiatives. This includes the ability to effectively communicate complex information, build consensus, and navigate organizational politics to achieve desired outcomes.
Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate and present effectively to diverse audiences, including senior management, project teams, and other stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative relationships, foster open communication, and resolve conflicts effectively.
What sets you apart:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
SAFe Program Consultant (SPC)
Agile tooling and metric product management experience (e.g. Jira, agile maturity metrics)
5+ years’ experience in leading agile transformations/center of excellence functions
Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale transformation projects.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with customers at all levels.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Executive communication and presentation skills.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320- $273,930.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
