Phoenix’s goal is to improve the healthcare experience for Canadians and we’re looking for a Director of Technology to lead and oversee our technology strategy and operations. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development, implementation, and optimization of all technological initiatives across the organization.
As the Director of Technology, you will manage and mentor a talented team, collaborate closely with cross-functional departments, and ensure the company's technology infrastructure is innovative, secure, and aligned with business goals. You will play a key role in shaping the company's technical direction, evaluating emerging technologies, and ensuring scalable solutions that support both current and future business growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the technology strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall business objectives and goals.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and optimization of technology solutions across the organization.

  • Manage a team of engineers, developers, and IT professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management.

  • Show a deep commitment to crafting clean, efficient, and reliable software that meets both technical and user needs, while continuously seeking opportunities to improve code quality and ensure long-term maintainability.

  • Drive the technical vision for the company, ensuring innovation and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to improve business performance.

  • Develop and execute a roadmap for all technology projects, ensuring timely delivery and effective resource allocation.

  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., product, marketing, operations) to identify technology needs and design solutions that drive business growth.

  • Proactively identify areas of technical debt and work with the team to prioritize and implement solutions that improve code quality, enhance system performance, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

  • Maintain oversight of IT infrastructure, security, and data management, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Ensure the company’s technology systems are scalable, reliable, and secure.

  • Manage technology budgets and resources effectively, making recommendations for future investments in technology.

  • Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to keep the company competitive.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the technology team, encouraging innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to assess and implement third-party solutions and tools when needed.

  • Evaluate and mitigate risks related to technology projects, systems, and operations.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a senior technology leadership role, such as Director of Technology, CTO, or similar.

  • Strong technical background with expertise in software development, IT infrastructure, security, and data management.

  • Prior leadership experience in a fast growing start-up scale up

  • Experience managing and leading diverse technical teams in an agile environment.

  • Deep understanding of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments to achieve business and technology goals.

  • Proven experience in technology project management, including managing budgets and timelines.

  • Special consideration for candidates with experience in Canadian healthcare privacy and security (SOC2 or ISO 12001)

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • You’ve done it before, at scale. You have some hard-won lessons from the industry, and bring a deep understanding of navigating a technology team through the start-up scale up phase of growth

  • You’re passionate about improving the Canadian healthcare experience and have a personal connection to the space
