Definity is seeking a Director, Sustainability Reporting & Engagement to lead the ongoing development and implementation of Definity’s sustainability and ESG disclosure strategy. 

You will be part of the Sustainability team within Corporate Strategy that also builds and executes sustainability integration initiatives and social impact programs across the business, helping to fulfill Definity’s purpose of building a better world by helping clients and communities adapt and thrive. 

You will collaborate with key functional partners including Financial Reporting, Enterprise Risk Management, Investor Relations, and Integrated Marketing & Communications to enhance data governance, shape the corporate narrative, and position Definity as a purposedriven sustainability leader.

What to expect

Reporting & Disclosure 

  • Set the strategic direction for Definity’s sustainability and climate disclosure program to demonstrate the company’s performance on material ESG issues.
  • Own the production of Definity’s annual Sustainability Report and Public Accountability Statement, and contribute relevant content to MD&A, proxy circular, and other reporting as required.
  • Refine and govern an ESG disclosure control environment to ensure data integrity, harmonization, audit trails, and performance tracking that supports strategic decisionmaking and transparent reporting.
  • Scope and execute assurance engagements for prioritized ESG metrics and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Oversee phased adoption and alignment with relevant reporting frameworks and standards, proactively assessing emerging requirements and guiding the organization’s readiness for future regulatory and stakeholder expectations (e.g. OSFI B-15, CSDS 1 and 2).

Stakeholder Engagement, Communication & Leadership 

  • Drive materiality assessment and internal and external stakeholder engagement to guide and share sustainability priorities and disclosures.
  • Develop and amplify Definity’s sustainability narrative, collaborating with Investor Relations and Integrated Marketing & Communications to ensure clarity, credibility, and alignment with stakeholder expectations, including investors, analysts, and rating agencies.
  • Lead engagement with ESG raters and rankers (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS and others) and support material client/supplier ESG questionnaires
  • Lead, coach, and develop one or more direct reports, fostering high performance, analytical excellence, and professional growth.

Strategy Development 

  • Conduct benchmarking and competitive intelligence, providing insights into to inform Definity’s sustainability strategy, priorities, and disclosures.
  • Oversee governance and maintenance of a centralized ESG knowledge base, including sustainability research, policies, positions, and action plans to support alignment and transparency across the business.
  • Assess and interpret emerging sustainability trends, evaluating implications for strategy and disclosure to provide insight on risks, opportunities, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Partner with Enterprise Risk Management and Corporate Actuarial to align OSFI Guideline B15 climate risk management expectations with external disclosure requirements.

What you bring

  • 10+ years of experience in ESG or sustainability reporting, preferably in a public company or audit / assurance environment.
  • Expertise in data governance, controls, reporting platforms, and assurance practices.
  • Knowledge of sustainability regulations, standards, and frameworks, including CSDS and OSFI B‑15.
  • Experience managing ESG ratings, rankings, and stakeholder disclosures.
  • Excellent written, visual, and executive‑level communication skills.
  • Confidence in leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience leveraging Generative AI to improve insights and productivity.
  • Post‑secondary education in business, sustainability, accounting, or a related field; professional designations are an asset.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong personal commitment to sustainability.

Salary Range: $134,300 - $184,300
