Job Description

The Strategic Market Manager will set the overall strategy and objectives for the business related to products in the Factory Warehouse Automation, specialty geared solutions, and servo motor markets. This position requires a strategic mindset, deep industry knowledge, and a strong ability to collaborate across various functions to develop and execute effective market strategies. Development of key OEM customer accounts and establishment of key relationships with other Nidec companies, industry representatives, and internal Nidec Automation sales teams will be critical to success. This person will guide the creation of the next generation of electric motors, gear motors and controls solutions to service the factory automation market.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research to identify key trends, opportunities, and challenges within automation drive market segments. Analyze customer needs, preferences, and buying behaviors to inform strategic decision-making for product management and engineering. Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events as needed, advising and executing on any professional trade organizations our team should be participating in.
  • Segment Strategy Development: Develop comprehensive segment strategies aligned with overall business objectives. Define clear value propositions, positioning strategies, and go-to-market plans to maximize market share and profitability.
  • Product Portfolio Management: Collaborate with product management teams locally and globally to assess product portfolios and identify gaps or opportunities for innovation. Drive product development initiatives tailored to the specific needs of targeted market segments and OEMs. Determine market product price points to maximize sales penetration and gross margins for the business and manage/maintain industry specific price list records. Work with other Nidec business in automation to develop a shared product and go-to market strategy.
  • Customer Engagement: Build strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders within the automation market segment. Act as a trusted advisor, understanding their business objectives and offering Nidec Drive hardware and software solutions to meet their needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, marketing, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and execution of segment strategies. Provide guidance and support to drive successful implementation of initiatives.
  • Performance Tracking and Reporting: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of segment strategies. Monitor and analyze performance metrics, providing regular updates and insights to senior management. Work with Director of Strategic Marketing and VP of Sales to set sales objectives, identify opportunities, and manage sales forecasting and pipeline through Salesforce.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Monitor competitive activities and industry trends to anticipate market shifts and identify areas for differentiation. Develop strategies to maintain a competitive edge and capitalize on emerging opportunities. Become the key point of contact for global Nidec Drives product management and engineering teams.

Travel Requirements

  • Throughout Americas and Regional defined areas.
  • Occasional to other countries, as customer situations dictate.
  • Overall travel: 40%

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Marketing is preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, sales, marketing or related field.
  • Electric motor and motor control experience is required
  • Experience with creating product strategy is required
  • Experience in the Automation / Factory Automation field is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable using a computer for various tasks.
