With millions of diners, 60,000+ restaurant partners and 25+ years of experience, OpenTable, part of Booking Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: BKNG), is an industry leader with a passion for helping restaurants thrive. Our world-class technology empowers restaurants to focus on what matters most – their team, their guests, and their bottom line – while enabling diners to discover and book the perfect restaurant for every occasion.

Every employee at OpenTable has a tangible impact on what we do and how we do it. You’ll also be part of a global team and its portfolio of metasearch brands. Hospitality is all about taking care of others, and it defines our culture.

As the Director, Risk and Controls, you will serve as a pivotal leader within OpenTable, ensuring our financial and operational integrity meets the highest industry standards. Reporting into the finance organization and coordinating closely with Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG), you will oversee compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act and drive the evolution of our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.

This is a high-impact role that requires a blend of technical governance expertise and strategic partnership. You will collaborate with cross-functional leaders to identify, assess, and mitigate material risks, ensuring that our internal control environment not only meets regulatory requirements but also supports the agile business objectives of a global technology leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • SOX Governance & Leadership: Serve as the primary point of contact for the SOX compliance program and Internal Audit. Lead the design, implementation, and rigorous maintenance of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR).

  • ERM Framework Maturation: In collaboration with the Booking Holdings Group Risk & Controls Team, lead the implementation and localized execution of the ERM framework at the OpenTable brand level.

  • Strategic Risk Advisory: Launch and manage value-added risk initiatives that align with OpenTable’s strategic goals. Connect risk mitigation strategies directly to business performance and scalability.

  • Executive Reporting: Synthesize complex risk data into actionable insights for senior management. Provide transparent reporting on control deficiencies, remediation status, and enterprise risk posture.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a trusted advisor to leaders across Finance, Information Security, Privacy, and Legal to embed risk management practices into the DNA of the business.

  • Policy & Process Excellence: Define and maintain robust policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for ERM components, including risk registers, Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), and incident management.

  • Business Integration: Foster deep relationships with department heads to ensure risk management is viewed as a business enabler rather than a hurdle, driving a culture of accountability and proactive mitigation.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Mentor, and lead a high-performing risk and controls team. Foster a culture of professional growth, continuous learning, and excellence, ensuring the team has the technical skills and business acumen to support a scaling global organization.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience in internal/external audit or risk management.

  • Education & Certification: Must be a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

  • Foundational Training: Proven track record with external audit experience (Big 4 preferred).

  • SOX Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of managing SOX compliance within complex, high-growth, or global environments.

  • Strategic Acumen: Ability to "connect the dots" between technical systems, business products, and overarching corporate strategy.

  • Communication & Influence: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to influence executive-level stakeholders and navigate a matrixed global organization.

  • Agility: A quick learner who thrives in fast-paced environments, with the ability to prioritize effectively under pressure and during unexpected market or regulatory events.

  • Ownership: A high degree of personal accountability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Benefits and Perks

  • Work from (almost) anywhere for up to 20 days per year

  • Focus on mental health and well-being:

    • Company-paid therapy sessions through SpringHealth

    • Company-paid subscription to Headspace

There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. The range for this Canada based role is $160,000 - $175,000 CAD.

We offer a competitive base salary and benefits including: health benefits; flexible spending account; retirement benefits; life insurance; paid time off (including PTO, paid sick leave, medical leave, bereavement leave, floating holidays and paid holidays); and parental leave benefits. This role is eligible to be considered for an annual bonus and equity grant.

Work Environment & Flexibility

At OpenTable, we pride ourselves on fostering a global and dynamic work environment. As a team member with us, you will benefit from a schedule tailored to accommodate a global workforce operating across multiple time zones. While the majority of your responsibilities may align with conventional business hours, there will be instances where you are expected to manage communications - via calls, Slack messages, or emails - outside of regular working hours to effectively collaborate with international colleagues, respond to restaurant partners, and/or address urgent matters. OpenTable will always abide by and consider local laws and regulations.

Inclusion

We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. We know the best ideas come when we bring different voices to the table, so we're building a team as dynamic as the diners and restaurants we serve—and fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome to be themselves.
