Beacon Software is a permanent capital holding company which acquires and grows essential businesses. We are a profitable series B+ firm that combines great technologists, operators and M&A professionals to accelerate the scale of the ambition of the dozens of businesses we own and operate. We are supported by capital from tier-1 venture capital, crossover, and endowment investors as well as the founders of the leading technology companies from the past decade.

We are growing our team in Toronto, San Francisco, and New York. Apply below.

About the Role

As Director of IT at Beacon Software, you will lead the technology strategy and operations across our growing portfolio of software companies. This is a unique opportunity to drive value creation at scale—implementing standardized systems, optimizing IT infrastructure, and enabling operational excellence across dozens of businesses in education, finance, logistics, recreation, and beyond.

You will work closely with portfolio company leadership, Beacon's central technology team, and external partners to modernize IT environments, implement best-in-class tools, and build scalable processes that accelerate growth. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on execution, requiring someone who thrives in fast-paced, multi-company environments and can deliver measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy at Beacon HQ and across Beacon's portfolio, aligning technology investments with business objectives and value creation plans
  • Lead IT due diligence for new acquisitions, assessing technology infrastructure, security posture, and integration requirements
  • Drive standardization initiatives across portfolio companies, including CRM systems (HubSpot), productivity tools, and core business applications
  • Oversee IT integration for newly acquired companies, ensuring smooth transitions while preserving operational continuity
  • Build and manage relationships with strategic technology vendors, negotiating enterprise agreements that benefit the entire portfolio
  • Establish IT governance frameworks, security policies, and compliance standards appropriate for a multi-company environment
  • Partner with portfolio company executives to identify technology-enabled growth opportunities and efficiency improvements
  • Manage IT budgets across the portfolio, optimizing spend while ensuring appropriate investment in critical systems
  • Build and lead a lean central IT team while coordinating with distributed resources at portfolio companies
  • Champion adoption of AI and automation tools to drive operational leverage across the portfolio
What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 5 years in multi-site or multi-company environments
  • Proven track record of IT transformation and value creation in private equity, holding company, or multi-business unit contexts
  • Deep experience with SaaS platforms, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), and modern enterprise applications
  • Strong background in IT M&A integration, including due diligence, Day 1 readiness, and post-acquisition optimization
  • Expertise in IT security, compliance (SOC 2, GDPR), and risk management across distributed environments
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating enterprise technology agreements
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence executives and work across organizational boundaries
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred; CISSP, CISM, or similar certifications a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to portfolio company locations
Nice to Have
  • Experience at a private equity portfolio operations team or operating partner role
  • Background in vertical market software or B2B SaaS environments
  • Familiarity with AI/ML technologies and their application to business operations
  • Experience with ERP systems, data warehousing, and business intelligence platforms

Our Values at Beacon Software

  • Humility: We acknowledge that the path to getting to the right answer involves being wrong along the way. We have strong beliefs which are weakly held. We actively seek new ideas and believe we can learn from anyone at any time.
  • Honesty: We are truth seeking in our approach to business problems. Business is a repeat game and we believe that human relationships generate alpha. We understand that trust is earned over a lifetime and can be lost in an instant.
  • Hunger: We play to win. We hold ourselves to high standards and will not be outworked. We take pride in having a deep sense of responsibility to ourselves, each other, our partners, and our customers. We believe to whom much is given much is expected.
  • Horizon: We seek to build a generational software company. This will take decades. We manage our expectations and those of our partners to take advantage of the 8th wonder of the world - compounding growth.
