We are seeking a Director of Indirect Tax Compliance to lead GST/HST governance for our Canadian subsidiaries. This role oversees all indirect tax filings, blended rate calculations, and audit management, while supporting M&A due diligence and ensuring compliance across business operations. You’ll partner with internal teams and external custodians, maintain strong tax controls and documentation, and stay ahead of evolving indirect tax legislation.WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Ensure organizational compliance with indirect tax laws and regulations related to sales tax.
- Due diligence review and integration of GST/HST processes for mergers and acquisition transactions.
- Supervise and review preparation of annual GST/HST filings (RC7294 and RC7291) for corporate selected listed financial institutions.
- Coordinate with external custodian (CIBC Mellon) for review and completion of annual GST/HST filings (RC7294) for CI family of mutual funds.
- Oversee annual preparation of GST/HST blended rates calculations for CI family of mutual funds and maintain process for rate updates throughout the year.
- Manage indirect tax audits process, gathering documentation and responding to enquiries from tax authorities.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure tax compliance in all business operations and provide tax-related advice.
- Conduct research on indirect tax laws and regulations, staying updated on changes that may affect the organization.
- Maintain accurate tax records and documentation to support tax filings and audit.
- Execution of a variety of corporate indirect tax processes including planning, compliance, provision and controversy matters
- Enhance technical skills by remaining up-to-date on trends, new legislative developments and tax authority decisions, and apply them to relevant complex situations
- Positive and cooperative attitude and maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of the organization's information and related work products
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Minimum of 4 years of Canadian indirect tax experience
- CPA or equivalent accounting designation
- Completion of CPA In-Depth GST/HST Program
- A commitment to learning in a tax technology environment
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to work with tight deadlines
- Process oriented with excellent documentation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
This opportunity is for an existing vacancy with the company. The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a bonus program.
