About the Team:

The Fund Oversight team is primarily responsible for providing oversight of fund related services outsourced to third party service providers, including fund valuation, financial and tax reporting for mutual funds, pooled funds and ETFs. The team also provides ongoing support for various product initiatives and fund related changes.

About the Role:

Reporting to the AVP, Fund Oversight, you will be managing the tax and expense reporting, and oversight responsibilities while interacting with various internal and external stakeholders. We are seeking a team-oriented individual with detailed, strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to problem solve. 

Your Responsibilities:

Tax Reporting:

  • Oversee the completion of all distribution projections, final calculations (monthly, quarterly, annually) and ad hoc calculations (fund organizations/mergers/terminations) for trust funds and tax provisions for corporate funds prepared by service provider, in accordance with regulatory requirements 
  • Prepare ad hoc tax analysis, as applicable
  • Oversee the completion of all tax-related filings (T2/T3) prepared by service provider in accordance with regulatory deadlines
  • Review management fee rebate calculation prepared by service provider
  • Manage HST process including but not limited to review of annual blended rate reports; prepare GST/HST elections, as applicable; review of HST calculations and final HST returns prepared by service provider
  • Prepare other tax-related filings (T3RI and others, as applicable) and applications as per regulatory requirements
  • Manage withholding tax reclaims process for the funds with service providers
  • Liaise with Canada Revenue Agency on all tax related matters

Expenses:

  • Review coding of fund related invoices
  • Review monthly expense related reports including but not limited to administrative fees, expense waivers, etc. prepared by service provider 
  • Prepare management reporting and analysis as required

Fund Oversight / Product Support:

  • Assist in the support of new fund product initiatives such as new fund and series launches; and fund reorganizations including mergers and wind ups
  • Assist in implementation and perform routine review of oversight procedures to ensure the net asset values of the funds are accurate
  • Assist in the implementation of fund related policies/charters through working closely with service provider
  • Assist in review of annual prospectus filing as well as Fund Facts with a focus on tax and expense related disclosure

Others:

  • Assist in special projects as necessary
  • Manage and develop staff

Your Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of fund taxation is a must
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
  • Minimum of eight to ten eight years of tax/accounting work experience related to investment funds industry, especially mutual funds/ETFs
  • Knowledge of tax compliance rules and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, quickly and under pressure in a multi-project and team environment
  • Detailed oriented, strong analytical, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Open to and comfortable with constantly evolving and changing priorities and new challenges
