Job Description:

About the role

The Director, Strategic Initiative Management is responsible for supporting the financial stewardship of the approximately $1 billion Sun Life spends annually on projects, programs, and initiatives across the enterprise.  This role is the central point for developing globally consistent financial metrics to support enterprise understanding of the value created by strategic initiatives.

This role will work closely with all Business and Support groups; specifically with their local Finance, Risk, and Project Management areas to develop best practices as it relates to the financial measurement of Key Initiatives (including measuring value).

The position requires strong presentation, and communication skills and reports directly to the AVP Corporate Finance – Strategic Initiative Management.  

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and maintain quarterly financial reporting for Sun Life key strategic initiatives

  • Drive financial insights from key strategic initiatives for senior leaders

  • Develop and maintain financial metrics linking qualitive outcomes to financial results

  • Partner with Business groups, Risk Management, and the Value Realization Office to ensure globally consistent messaging on Key Initiatives

  • Lead the planning, budgeting and forecast cycles for enterprise initiatives reporting

  • Lead various expense related initiatives (as required)

  • Identify and recommend process improvement opportunities to drive a continuous improvement mindset across the team.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in expense management and planning & analysis roles (5+ years)

  • Solution orientation with strong analytical problem-solving capability

  • Proven experience in cost accounting, modelling, allocation creation and analysis

  • Accounting designation (CPA)

  • Experience working in large, complex organizations

  • Develop creative, client-centered solutions, multiple alternatives, and approaches

  • Use technology and analytic skills to turn data into actionable insights

  • Assess complex issues from multiple angles to get the complete picture

  • Provide thought leadership with ability to implement with the use of best practices

  • Communicates confidently to a wide variety of audiences at all organizational levels

  • Accomplish results within Sun Life’s culture and builds a variety of networks to support performance

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
