This role will require being full-time onsite at our Toronto office to support collaborative team dynamics and innovative problem-solving.

We are looking for a Director of Engineering who will lead our Wallets engineering department.

The Wallets department is responsible for the core systems that power BitGo's digital asset custody and transaction capabilities. This includes platform access and authorization, notifications, core wallet platform (including self-custody), core transactional infrastructure, and HSM technologies. These systems are the foundation upon which our clients trust us with billions in digital assets.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a strategic organization composed of multiple engineering teams and managers, ensuring a clear impact on the success of BitGo.
  • Own the success of the Wallets department, making decisions that consistently drive the achievement of departmental and company OKRs.
  • Be accountable for the overall technical integrity, security posture, and operational health of our core wallet platform. This includes upholding an exceptionally high bar for correctness and security while making pragmatic, data-driven decisions on resource allocation.
  • Ensure the organization is resilient, responsive, and able to quickly address changing business conditions or critical production issues affecting wallet operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with senior leaders across engineering, product, security, and compliance to align the wallet platform roadmap with business priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Define and communicate a multi-year technical vision and strategy for the Wallets organization that aligns with BitGo's ambitious growth plans in the crypto fintech space.
  • Drive the evolution of our authorization, key management, and transactional systems to meet the needs of institutional clients with complex policy requirements.
Skills & Experience:

We are looking for leaders who share and practice our values: open communication, transparency, taking ownership, and a high level of craftsmanship. We are looking for individuals who share our vision and mission: deliver trust in digital assets.

Required:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time spent on platform, security, or financial systems
  • 4+ years of experience successfully leading geographically distributed teams of 4+ engineers
  • Strong experience building systems where correctness and security are paramount (financial services, payments, identity, or similar domains)
  • Experience with cryptographic systems, key management, or HSM integration (direct hands-on experience preferred, strong conceptual understanding required)
  • Familiarity with transactional systems and the challenges of building reliable, idempotent APIs
  • Experience in participating in and organizing on-call rotations for high-stakes systems
  • Proven experience sourcing and hiring top engineering talent
  • Experience working in a cross-team environment, collaborating with and enabling other functions to drive broader departmental goals
  • A self-starter capable of adapting quickly and being decisive
  • Engineering degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
  • Experience with blockchain technologies, digital asset custody, or cryptocurrency systems
  • Familiarity with multi-party computation (MPC), threshold signatures, or multi-signature schemes
  • Experience working in regulated financial environments with compliance and audit requirements
  • Background in building platforms serving enterprise or institutional clients
