Sleep Country Canada is looking for a Director, Data Engineering to play a critical role in leading the enterprise data platform strategy across all business units. This role ensures standardized, reliable, and scalable data to support reporting, analytics, and decision-making, while driving consistency across data models, KPIs, and tools. This role enhances team efficiency through modern data practices and oversees reporting platforms, including governance, vendor management, and cost optimization.

In this role you will:

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing team, setting clear expectations and providing ongoing development to ensure alignment and achievement of key business objectives.
  • Own and evolve enterprise data platforms across all business units, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment to business and technology strategies.         
  • Define and enforce standardized data models, KPI definitions, and business logic across all reporting and analytics platforms, enabling a consistent and trusted view of business performance.
  • Own the enterprise reporting platform strategy, including tooling, platform governance, vendor relationships, and cost management, ensuring solutions are standardized, cost-effective, and aligned with business needs.           
  • Improve data delivery velocity by establishing scalable engineering practices, development standards, and automation across data teams.           
  • Establish and maintain pragmatic data quality, governance, and monitoring practices to ensure data is accurate, reliable, and transparent across the organization.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence (Store Operations), Digital, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to deliver high-quality data products aligned to business needs.         
  • Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement - Improve reporting delivery processes, data quality monitoring, issue resolution, and service levels for reporting availability and accuracy.

The Qualifications and experience we like to see:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 10+ years progressive experience in business intelligence, analytics, reporting, data engineering or data enablement.  Experience in retail is a definite asset.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and developing BI, reporting, or analytics teams.       
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to coach and scale teams fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Strong experience with BI tools, including PowerBI, & Qlik; experience with Domo or other modern BI platforms is an asset.
  • Experience working with retail data domains, including sales, inventory, customer, finance, digital, and supply chain.
  • Strong understanding of data models, data warehousing, data pipelines, and how BI depends on trusted data engineering practices.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks, data quality management and solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships including contract negotiation, performance management, and cost optimization.
  • Excellent communication, organization, influencing, negotiation, and time management skills with ability to work in fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Additional Information

This is a current open position.  The salary range for this position is $170,000.00 - $200,000.00 annually.  Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labor market.
