Job Description

The Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for setting strategy and managing day-to-day execution of SmartRent’s external communications efforts. This role will focus equally on public relations and social media, managing SmartRent’s brand reputation, media relations and online presence to amplify our reach and impact. 

Key components:

  • Managing SmartRent’s brand and reputation through key external communications activities, primarily focusing on public relations and social media activities.
  • Influencing our brand story, identifying the right messages and channels to amplify reach and impact. 
  • Serving as a trusted partner to internal teams and SmartRent’s external agencies, developing and executing PR and social media strategies that elevate brand awareness and thought leadership.
  • Hold PR and social media agencies accountable for working together and delivering key analytics, developing sound, strategic plans that optimize performance and keep the brand agile.

Responsibilities:

Public Relations 

  • Spreadhead, develop and execute comprehensive PR strategies that align with corporate objectives, working closely with senior leadership to ensure integrated communication plans, promote and enhance brand perception
  • Enhance and promote a positive brand image and position SmartRent as a thought leader.
  • Drive earned media, speaking engagements and award opportunities, working closely with PR agencies
  • Build and cultivate relationships with key media contacts and proactively pitch stories, interviews and briefings; ensure consistent and accurate representation of the company’s messaging across digital, print and broadcast platforms. 
  • Write and edit press releases, articles, talking points, award submissions and other PR and corporate communications materials as assigned.
  • Create and maintain a calendar of PR activities for the Marketing department. 
  • Monitor media coverage and sentiment and prepare regular PR performance reports.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align PR messaging with company and marketing goals.

Social Media

  • Develop and execute a social media strategy to grow SmartRent’s presence across platforms (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).
  • Own, develop and contribute to day-to-day content creation, scheduling and engagement across social media platforms.
  • Create and maintain a calendar of social media posts and activities for the Marketing department. 
  • Generate, collect and analyze performance metrics to optimize content and drive engagement.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to create compelling social campaigns that align with PR initiatives, product launches and company milestones.
  • Monitor and respond to social media conversations, ensuring timely and authentic communication.
  • Track trends and insights in social media and identify opportunities for SmartRent to innovate and stand out.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, business, marketing, communications, journalism or related field. 
  • 10+ years of public relations and/or marketing experience, including managerial experience. 
  • Proven experience in public affairs, public relations, or a similar role, with a focus on investor relations, social media, community engagement, and media production. 
  • Strong writing, editing and organizational skills. 
  • Proven passion for employee culture and engagement.  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Lifelong learner, innate sense of curiosity.
  • Team player, willing to work collaboratively/cross-functionally. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Google Suite and Slack.
  • Proficient in HubSpot and Meltwater.
  • Proficient in AP and MLA style.
