Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte, こんにちは!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contract or Freelancer at Canva you have a choice on where and how you work. That means if you want to work in the office, at home, or a bit of both, it's up to you. Wherever works for you, works for us.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
As the Digital Designer for the Japan locale you will collaborate with a diverse team of SEO specialists, designers, engineers, and product managers to create impactful digital experiences tailored for the Japanese market. You'll thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and bring projects to life through creative, data-informed solutions that align with Canva's business objectives and user needs. Your focus will be on developing on-brand, user-centered designs that drive growth in the Japanese locale.
At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Discovery: Contribute to discovery phases, including user story development, competitor analysis, and wireframes, to define problems and uncover opportunities in the Japanese locale.
  • Drive: Create project briefs informed by insights, data, and research while validating ideas with stakeholders and users
  • Visual Design: Design creative, on-brand visual solutions such as banners, graphics, and UI for landing pages, tailored to drive engagement and conversions in Japan
  • Implementation: Collaborate closely with other designers, product managers, and engineers to ensure layouts, images, typography, and user experiences are cohesive, flawless, and localized for Japanese audiences.
  • Iteration: Experiment, iterate, and optimize landing pages and user flows based on data and feedback to improve conversion rates.
  • Design at Scale: Embrace Canva's design systems and principles while considering internationalisation, accessibility, and responsive design to create scalable solutions for Japanese users.

You're probably a match if

  • You have a portfolio showcasing experience in designing, shipping, and iterating digital experiences, including websites and landing pages
  • You have strong graphic and visual design skills, leveraging typography, layout, composition, and motion to create compelling visuals
  • You have a solid understanding of digital and web design principles, with a passion for crafting user-centric and responsive experiences.
  • You can create intuitive user flows, wireframes, and prototypes to bring ideas to life and enhance user experience
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with designers, engineers, and product teams
  • You balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail, ensuring every experience is built with the user in mind
  • You are a natural problem solver, excited by challenges and comfortable navigating ambiguity
  • You approach design with research and data, ensuring modern, effective, and scalable solutions
  • You have experience developing responsive designs using the latest tools and technologies
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and embrace rapid growth and change. At Canva, we're growing at lightning speed, and what worked six months ago might need rethinking today-but you're excited by the opportunity to innovate and adapt
  • You're probably a match if you're a native Japanese speaker (or highly proficient), ensuring a deep understanding of local culture and design nuances. English proficiency is a plus, helping you collaborate seamlessly with our global team
