Here, opportunities are everywhere - to try something new, to learn, to do meaningful and impactful work, and they're yours for the taking.

Position Overview:

This role is a technical position focused on garment construction specifications and Bill of Materials (BOM) management. Based on-site at the Canada Goose factory in Toronto, the role is part of the Product Engineering team and serves as a bridge between Product Development and Manufacturing.

The candidate will translate product development technical packages into detailed construction specifications, optimizing methods to ensure that each garment meets high-performance standards for quality, durability, and cold-weather functionality.

A strong technical background in apparel engineering and excellent collaboration skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative luxury outerwear designs from concept to production.

What you'll do:

  • Construction Specs: Develop complete construction technical specifications for each product, including construction details, and material handling specifications. Define and document garment engineering details such quilting/baffling layout, and any special construction requirements to guide sample makers and manufacturing teams.
  • Material & Component Engineering: Work closely on inner material selections and component specification for down jackets. Ensure components meet performance requirements and optimize methods and selections with trials and testing.
  • Garment Construction Optimization: Analyze and optimize jacket construction methods for efficiency, durability, and quality. Recommend improvements in construction to enhance manufacturability without compromising performance. It is critical to maintain structural integrity and not to compromise design aesthetics.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with a broad range of teams to drive manufacturing development. Partner with PD to review tek packs and design intent to confirm technical feasibility. Collaborate with related sourcing and procurement teams and initiate testing as required. Interface with Manufacturing teams to refine construction techniques and resolve assembly challenges; and coordinate with Quality Assurance to establish inspection criteria and ensure finished jackets meet strict quality and performance standards.
  • BOM Creation & Management (PLM): Create, maintain, and update detailed Bills of Materials for each assigned style. Ensure fabric, insulation, trim, and component are accurately documented for ease of manufacturing flow, providing a comprehensive “recipe” for garment manufacturing.
  • Monitor Development BOM changes and take over manufacturing BOM finalization to support accurate costing, inventory planning, and manufacturing scheduling.

Let's talk about you:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Design & Technology, Fashion Engineering, or a related field. A solid academic foundation in garment construction, textile science, and product development principles is expected.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in apparel product development, engineering, or technical design, preferably with a focus on outerwear.  Deep understanding of garment construction techniques, manufacturing processes and Labor Minutes Calculation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Materials & Components: Strong knowledge of textiles performance and hardware components.
  • Industrial Machinery: sewing Manufacturing machinery knowledge is required.
  • Technical Documentation: Proficiency in creating and interpreting detailed technical documentation such as tech packs, BOMs, and engineering drawings. Excellent attention to detail.
  • PLM Software: Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management systems for apparel. Capable of building and updating BOMs and tech packs in a PLM platform
  • Design Software: Skillful in Adobe Illustrator to create and edit technical flat sketches and construction diagrams.
  • Microsoft Excel skills and comfort with handling product data.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities in a manufacturing context. Capable of anticipating and resolving production-related issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail, particularly regarding data accuracy and product quality
  • Time Management: Effective organizational and time management skills to handle multiple styles and deadlines within a seasonal development calendar
  • Communication: Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment
  • Sample making environment
  • Manufacturing environment
