turbopuffer is looking for our first-in-role designer. Design is already central to who we are. We’re an infrastructure company that takes the work seriously, but not ourselves too seriously. Your job is to carry that mix of hardcore and whimsical through every surface we ship, making turbopuffer unmistakable everywhere we show up.

You’ll report to the CEO and work across product, brand, web, and marketing. You might specialize in one of those areas and want to stretch into the others. You might be the rare person who already moves between all of them.

what you’ll do:

  • own design across our most important surfaces: product, web, blog, IRL, campaigns, etc.

  • work closely with our product engineers to build and evolve how our customers interact with turbopuffer

  • partner with GTM and growth to make sure every customer, candidate, and community-facing surface meets the turbopuffer craft bar

  • evolve our visual identity without sanding off what makes it turbopuffer

must have:

  • craft – your work is useful, polished, and specific

  • range – you have a clear spike in brand, product, web, marketing, or design engineering, and enough curiosity to cross the others

  • scrappy – you are down to blur the lines between ideas, design, and final ship

  • technical fluency – your idea of design review is tweaking Tailwind classes

  • independent – you can get things shipped, even if it means jumping in with Claude Code

nice to have:

  • you understand developer product branding

  • you have worked across brand and product at a small, fast-moving company

  • you've lead people or teams and worked directly with founders

  • you know the sweet spot between hardcore and whimsical

you might not be a fit if:

  • you think one-off marketing assets are beneath you

  • you have never touched claude code, cursor, etc.

  • you prefer handing off mocks to getting things into production

tpuf is hardcore & whimsical. we value:

  • overstep > understep

  • show > tell

  • complexity is earned

  • showing up as part of our customer’s team

  • making stuff easy to react to
