The Design Manager, Technology role will be hired under the Engineering Management Centre of Excellence group within the Engineering Management Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Design Manager, Technology role will play a support role in the delivery of Engineering Services on a large project under the GTAA project.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the candidate will lead and coordinate the implementation of multidisciplinary design standards and works collaboratively with the main contractor. Responsibilities include oversight of pre-construction phase services, client interface at multiple levels, design consultancy management, facilitating design reviews, external stakeholder management, and technical assistance.

Leads and coordinates the implementation of multi-disciplinary design standards and works collaboratively with the main contractor.
Oversees pre-construction phase services, including planning, all design phases, site development, permitting, and procurement support.
Serves as client interface at multiple levels and at all phases and provides technical advice guidance and subject matter expertise with respect to design development.
Manages design consultancy agreements to achieve the requirements of the contract in terms of technical specification, schedule, and cost.
Facilitates design reviews and coordinates input and feedback from all stakeholders to ensure feedback is provided in an effective and efficient manner.
Manages reviews by external stakeholder groups (airlines, agencies, authorities having jurisdiction).
Provides Management and Executive level progress and performance reports, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
Manages the client review/approval of the design at all phases and facilitates an effective handover between Development and Construction.
Provides technical assistance and support to the delivery teams based on knowledge of the design phases and GTAA’s facilities requirements, by bringing the perspective of planning and design to the other phases of program/projects construction delivery phases of the Program.
Conducts and coordinates quality reviews for compliance with scope the requirements of work the Program.
Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of GTAA staff.
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in large capital programs in an engineering / design management position with a focus on terminal renovation / improvement programs.
Recognized degree in engineering or architecture. Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
Demonstrable experience in performing design reviews and facilitating design coordination activities.
Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision making.
Demonstrable experience using AutoCAD & Revit (MicroStation is an asset) /BIM/Civil 3D design software & Experience in Microsoft Office software.
Good working knowledge of program development including scope finalization, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk assessments.
Strong technical capability in all project phases and ability to solve complex problems including by using data analytics to support solution identification.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
* Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $ 125 000 to 175 000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
