Job Description

Tricon is looking for a Design Lead to manage the design functions for our high-rise residential development portfolio. Tricon partners with acclaimed architects and interior designers from around the world to create landmark buildings and inspired spaces for Toronto’s new generation of renters. Tricon communities are defined by design excellence, and each one of our developments reflect the unique personality of the local neighborhood and resident base we serve. You will be instrumental in bringing each property to life through design while ensuring aesthetic consistency across the portfolio.
The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail, impeccable taste, global sensibility, and a passion for delivering world class experiences through design and placemaking. The Design Lead will be responsible for planning and supervising a wide range of residential projects through various stages of design and development. You will guide the concepting and design process and work in close collaboration with Tricon’s development team, marketing team, construction team, and operations team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with project teams, designers, architects, and various internal stakeholders.

  • Lead selection process for architects, interior designers, and procurement agents.

  • Act as a visionary, expressing creativity through sound selections that are not only attractive, but functional, and resonate with our target market audiences and residents.

  • Work with development, construction teams and all other stakeholders on all aspects of project strategy and act as internal lead for all design elements.

  • Oversee, with development and operations, FF&E, art and accessory selection.

  • Partner closely with the Tricon marketing team on project branding, obtaining alignment on key design elements.

  • Ensure that Tricon’s design and brand guidelines are current and updated on an ongoing basis.

  • Align creative and design efforts with executive leadership’s vision.

Qualifications:

  • Education in architecture, design, or a related field. At minimum, a deep understanding of the construction and development processes. Architectural training is preferred but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to envision a world-class architectural portfolio aligned under Tricon’s vison and brand by balancing design sensibilities with functionality and user experience.

  • Minimum of ten years of creative / design experience, five of those years should be in a leadership role.

  • Multi-disciplinary experience in hospitality, commercial, or retail.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams; ability to influence, with no direct authority, and be seen as the expert in your field.

  • Effective at building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.

  • Solid organizational and planning skills; able to effectively estimate project and task timelines.

  • Experienced at recognizing, prioritizing, and mitigating potential workflow and project risks.

  • Excellent communication skills; maintain confidence in presenting across all levels of the organization.
