Reporting to the Manager of Platform Engineering, the candidate will work as an integral part of the Platform Engineering team to provide supporting capabilities as well as design and deployment of various Cloud-based and on-premise databases.
Additional duties may include:
•Assist with the building and operation of Cloud-based infrastructure for various projects.
•Design, build, document and optimize database schemas.
•Monitor database performance, availability and security, and audit existing designs.
•Support database operations across Telesat including connectivity, integration, design and maintenance activities.
Candidates must live in the Ottawa-Gatineau area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa-Gatineau. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify.
Candidates must be willing to be onsite three (3) days per week.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement data administration policy, standards and models.
- Research and document data requirements, data collection and administration policy, data access rules and security.
- Develop policies and procedures for network and/or Internet database access and usage and for the backup and recovery of data.
- Conduct research and provide advice to other information systems professionals regarding the collection, availability, security and suitability of data.
- Write scripts related to stored procedures and triggers.
- May lead and coordinate teams of data administrators in the development and implementation of data policies, standards and models.
Education & Experience Required
- The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
- Bachelor's degree in technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of relevant industry experience with the deployment, management and automation of Cloud-based resources.
- At least 3 years experience in the operation of databases and related environments.
- Proven experience in the design, build and operations of both relational and NoSQL database infrastructure (e.g. MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, CosmosDB, DynamoDB)
- Experience in the administration of computer systems such as systems administrator in an operations role.
- Strong understanding and hands on experience in operations and management of public cloud-computing environments (e.g. GCP, AWS and Azure).
- Understanding of DevOps concepts.
- Certifications in Azure and/or AWS, GCP would be an asset.
Decision Making & Supervision
- In this role, the incumbent will have some influence on the use and standardization of database environments.
- The incumbent will rely on their experience to make decisions on the operations, customization and tuning of environments and services.
Working Conditions
- Generally comfortable working conditions with lifting and onsite installations.
- Moderate visual concentration in use of video display terminal.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP). Canadian government security clearance may also be required.
