About the team and role:

We are responsible for setting the future direction of eBay: our ambition, where we play, and how we win in the market. Our team is responsible for deeply understanding the needs of our core buyers and creating the strategies that will differentiate eBay relative to our competitors. We work very closely with product, technology, and regional business teams to ensure the strategy is translated into action across the end-to-end customer experience.

The View Item page (VI) in eBay plays a crucial role in influencing a potential customer's purchasing decision, serving as a dedicated space to showcase detailed information about a specific product. It’s a pivotal touchpoint in the buyer journey. A comprehensive understanding of the View Item page and its importance along the buyer shopping journey is crucial for comprehending buyer growth. We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist / Data Analyst with specialized experience in the View Item page and Buyer Growth on top of strong e-commerce experience. 

What you will accomplish:

As a Data Science Analyst, you will have the outstanding opportunity to influence decision making of the Buyer Success (View Item page and Buyer Growth) product team’s roadmap with comprehensive insights and thought leadership. You will possess a deep understanding of user engagement on the key aspects of the View Item page and Buyer Growth opportunities including buyer churn and prevention understanding on top of a good foundation in standard data science competencies. The successful applicant will bring expertise in customer behavior understanding, personalization opportunities using advanced machine learning skills and keen insights into buyer growth. 

Your successful contributions will be pivotal in improving customer experience in View Item pages and driving sustainable buyer growth for eBay as well as enhancing the overall buyer experience throughout the buyer lifecycle stages. We are looking for a candidate who is not only technically proficient but also strategically minded, capable of navigating and optimizing our sophisticated online shopping ecosystem.

What you will bring:

  • 2-3 years of experience in analytics/data science

  • Strong technical skills to turn big data into concrete insights with hands-on ability in using SQL, R, Python, Tableau, etc.

  • Experience in advanced Machine Learning models and skills like Ensemble Models, LLM and Krylov, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Transformer etc.

  • Consistent record of turning insights into product growth opportunities in prior roles with increasing scope and responsibilities, preferably in leading technology companies.

  • Strong background in ecommerce product experience.

  • Strong quantitative background with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Math, Economics, Physics, Engineering. Master’s degrees or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Good experience with both descriptive and inferential statistics – ability to build basic prototype models.

  • Experience with site experimentation (A/B testing) is a plus.
