🎭 Role & Team

We’re looking to hire an Data Migration Specialist to own the solutioning and problem-solving of data migrations required to move data from legacy systems into gaiia. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, gaiia’s Migration Platform team, and clients to ensure migrations are accurate, timely, and meet required data quality standards.

You’ll be hands-on with data mapping, transformation, validation, cutover, and post-migration verification to ensure the new system operates with reliable, trusted data. You’ll also help drive migrations forward by working through ambiguity and identifying practical solutions when challenges arise.

This is a customer-facing role where you will manage the migration relationship end-to-end, guiding clients through challenges, resolving questions across teams, and developing an understanding of unfamiliar systems to propose thoughtful solutions.

💻 What You're Going to Do
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to assess legacy data environment: structures, sources, volumes, quality, and constraints.
  • Own migration solutioning: evaluate requirements, design approaches, and propose viable paths when blockers arise.
  • Independently explore unfamiliar systems to understand source data structure in relation to gaiia’s data model and product.
  • Collaborate with gaiia’s engineers on data extraction (databases, reports, flat files, APIs, etc.), and transformation approach aligned with business needs.
  • Take ownership of unblocking challenges by identifying workarounds and translating business and technical issues into actionable steps.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and ensure stakeholders see expected data outcomes.
  • Plan and execute cutover strategy: final "delta" migrations, downtime considerations, and rollback plans.
  • Monitor post-cutover data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure stability in production.
  • Produce documentation of the migration: mapping specs, transformation rules, data anomalies, and decision logs.
  • Manage migration execution progress through project management tools.
  • Communicate status, risks, and issues to implementation stakeholders and clients.
🧠 What Success Looks Like
  • Migration blockers are identified early, and actively solved.
  • Practical, effective solutions are proposed when standard approaches fall short.
  • Clients feel confident and supported throughout the migration process.
  • Delivered data is reliable, well-understood, and validated.
  • Documentation enables repeatability and smoother future migrations.
🎖️ Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience (2-5+ years) working in data migration, data implementation, ETL, or similar roles.
  • Hands-on exposure to end-to-end migration processes (discovery, extraction, transformation, loading, validation).
  • Experience working with messy or poorly documented legacy systems.
  • Strong understanding of data mapping and transformation logic; ability to interpret legacy schemas.
  • Comfortable exploring new systems and forming hypotheses on how data can be extracted or structured.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a bias toward action and iteration.
  • Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clients.
  • Able to manage tasks and timelines while maintaining ownership of outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
✅ Nice-to-have
  • Strong proficiency in SQL; comfortable writing queries, transformations, debugging data issues.
  • Familiarity with data quality, validation, cleansing techniques.
  • Experience creating test plans for both pre- and post-migration validation: data integrity checks, reconciliation, spot checks, sampling)
