The Opportunity

PICTON Investments is seeking a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our newly formed Data team. If you’re a tech enthusiast who thrives on innovation and enjoys turning complex data into actionable insights, this is the role for you. You will collaborate with both technical and non-technical colleagues in a highly multidisciplinary team, contributing to projects that make a real business impact.

As a Data Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in  Azure Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Cloud, SQL, and programming languages to design, build, and optimize large-scale systems for data collection, storage, and analytics. Your work will directly influence high-quality pipelines and datasets that support critical business decisions.

You’ll have the opportunity to lead and learn:

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines.
• Automate data ingestion from multiple sources.
• Assemble large, complex datasets that meet business requirements.
• Optimize workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Implement data validation, deduplication, and integrity checks.
• Optimize query performance and ensure cost-efficient data storage.
• Manage data lakes, warehouses, marts, and databases.
• Build analytics tools to deliver actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and business performance metrics.
• Collaborate with stakeholders including Executive, Product, Data, and Development teams to solve data-related challenges.
• Document data flows, architecture, and pipeline dependencies.
• Support troubleshooting and optimization of queries and pipelines.

What we're looking for

• Experience: 7+ years as a Data Engineer, preferably with a Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.
• Technical Skills:
  • Designing and developing custom ETL processes using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Snowflake, Python, PySpark.
  • Advanced MS-SQL and relational database experience.
  • Experience designing and optimizing big data pipelines and datasets.
  • Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka.
  • Knowledge of Azure Cloud services including Data Factory, SQL Database, Data Warehouse, Blob Storage, Data Lake Storage, HDInsight, Cosmos DB, etc.
  • Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented scripting languages such as Python or C#.
• Soft Skills:

• • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable supporting multiple teams, systems, and products simultaneously.
  • Self-directed with a proactive approach to solving complex data challenges.

• Certifications: Azure certifications preferred.
