We’re seeking someone passionate about sports, news, and good writing to join our Copy Editing team and assist in making theScore’s in-house content the best it can be. The Copy department helps serve our hardcore user base by ensuring that articles and features are clean, clear, and engaging. The ideal candidate is a discerning, curious, and collaborative editor who values communication, produces quality work in both high-pressure and low-pressure situations, and is sensitive to the mobile news environment.
About the Work
- Edit and publish posts produced by theScore’s team of news editors across a variety of sports leagues, including NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL, NCAA football and basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, and MMA
- Edit captions for video and third-party content to comply with house style
- Provide editorial guidance and constructive feedback to news editors
- Adhere to theScore’s editorial guidelines and policies
- Other duties as required
About You
- Extensive sports knowledge, particularly regarding to the four major professional sports leagues, as well as NCAA football and basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, and MMA
- Flexibility with regards to scheduling and an ability to work nights and weekends
- Great attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with social media
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to take on other projects as they come up
- Previous experience in sports media preferred but not required
- Journalism degree preferred
