What you’ll be doing

The Market Risk Positional Data Team are responsible for ensuring that the data required by Capital Markets Risk Management (CMRM) are correct and complete.  You will achieve this by reconciling CMRM’s data against Front Office systems; identifying suspect data records and correcting data issues.  You’ll work to automate routine tasks to free up time for more in-depth investigations; identify common failures and recommend improvements; and you will work closely with stakeholders in the front office, Risk and technology to support CIBC’s strategic initiatives.

As a member of CMRM’s data group, you will work in accordance with CIBC’s data governance framework, and ensure that data governance standards (including data quality monitoring and metadata management) and appropriate risk control procedures are followed throughout your daily work.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Daily Market Data Integrity – You’ll proactively ensure that market risk data is captured in CMRM’s systems in a complete and timely manner.  Where potential gaps or errors exist, you’ll work with Risk Managers to understand the impact and appropriate resolutions, and with Solutions teams to implement protection against reoccurrence. You’ll ensure that data received from internal and external sources are properly captured, processed and delivered to downstream systems.

  • New initiatives - You’ll support CIBC’s strategic and Business as Usual initiatives to ensure that CMRM’s systems can support new trading initiatives, and can meet new regulatory requirements

  • Communication – You’ll work to identify impactful data movements and adjustments, record these clearly, and to communicate these changes, and the impact on risk calculations, to the risk managers.  As data issues are identified and resolved, you’ll help track, agree resolution and acquire related approvals.

  • Documentation and Governance – You’ll write concise and specific procedure instructions, as well as preparing detailed governance documents to describe decisions that control critical day to day operations.   You’ll assist in providing daily summaries of production data issues, and help provide ad-hoc data reports as requested.  You’ll support analysis of new and alternative sources of data.

  • Automation and Projects - You’ll help improve the automation of regular processes and controls, with a focus on enhancement of existing methodologies.  You’ll develop improvements that reduce operational risk and increase efficiency while retaining critical human decision making and expertise.  You’ll help define the requirements for changes to our Market Data systems, and perform UAT testing on enhancements prior to production.

  • Controls and Governance – You understand the importance of effective risk management through operational stability, documentation and procedure.  You will follow CIBC’s governance processes, and recommend improvements to Control procedures as appropriate.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate financial knowledge – You are familiar with key areas and facets of trading positions and Capital Market’s products (Money Market, FX, Commodities, Equities, Credit, Derivatives, Futures, OTC).  You have knowledge of key risk concepts including ‘Greeks’, Value at Risk, FRTB and CVA.

  • You have technical Skills – You’ll have a good understanding of financial derivatives and common trading strategies.  You’ll have experience in the area of relational databases (such as SQL), and be adept in the use of scripting languages such as Python for data analysis; and you’ll be experienced with the use of Excel and VBA for data visualisation.

  • You have certifications  - You are in financial economics/ financial risk management or quantitative discipline, such as mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, or mathematical finance / financial engineering.  A CFA or FRM accreditation would be an asset.

  • You are an effective communicator - You’ll have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and will be adept at breaking complex issues into simple outlines.

  • You are a team player – Able to work effectively and without close supervision in setting commitments and priorities, you thrive as part of a team in a collegiate culture helping contribute to team priorities.

  • You are process driven - You’re always seeking to enhance and speed up processes. You seek out innovative solutions and embrace evolving technologies.

  • You are detail oriented - You understand that success is in the details, and that data has meaning. You notice things that others don't and enjoy investigating complex problems. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.

  • Values matter to you - You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork and accountability.
