Commercial Underwriting Lead
The Commercial Team Lead is responsible for assisting with and supporting the profitable growth of the Commercial portfolio. They will be responsible for monitoring the regular operations of the team through items such as workflow management, monitoring KPIs to track growth and service, and the day-to-day operational management in the assigned region including referrals. They will motivate and encourage staff to become a high-performance team, promote a solution-oriented, sales culture and maintain the underwriting integrity of the portfolio.
This role manages work distribution amongst the team to ensure that department SLA’s are met. They ensure brokers are being responded to in a professional and timely manner and make underwriting decisions that will drive underwriting profitability.
They will work closely with the Corporate Underwriting Team in providing training and mentoring to underwriters as well maintaining some underwriting duties such as quoting and servicing of accounts.
What you will do:
Manage daily workflow operations while fostering a solution-oriented culture. Day to day items include:
- monitoring queue flow and volumes
- redistribute work when required
- track service KPIs to identify areas that require improvement and recommend remedial action
- underwrite referrals
- general workflow management
Apply Underwriting knowledge and judgement on Individual risks to drive profitability
- Review escalated risk referrals presented in alignment with the assigned underwriting authority and in accordance with our published rules and rates while assisting underwriters to look for solutions for brokers
Training/People Development
- Responsible for working with the Commercial Underwriting Team on training and mentoring of underwriters on both system and technical underwriting knowledge.
- Support and promote service focused activities for Underwriters. This includes formal training as well as individual mentorships.
- Partnering with the Technical Underwriting team to develop underwriters, manage development plans and performance improvement plans
- Build a transparent culture through open communication and trust
Large Accounts and Large Losses
- Responsible for maintaining and facilitating a formal large loss review process and a formal large account review process.
- In conjunction with the necessary underwriters and stakeholders, initiate the process to ensure that large losses and large accounts are reviewed in a timely manner ensuring all components of the risk are considered and that the appropriate actions are taken.
