This is a client-facing, non-management role ideal for someone with deep expertise in marine lines, experience working with diversified industries, and a proven ability to craft tailored insurance solutions for complex and multinational exposures.

As a VP within CRU, you’ll be the technical lead on large and specialty placements, support producer-driven new business opportunities, and serve as a strategic advisor to clients, underwriters, and internal stakeholders. You’ll work closely with senior colleagues but remain hands-on with all facets of placement, renewal, and market negotiations.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as a lead technical resource on marine and cargo placements including cargo, hull & machinery, builder’s risk, freight forwarder’s liability, and global logistics risks

  • Support the development of customized risk solutions for clients in diversified industries with marine exposures

  • Manage complex renewal processes including risk analysis, submission preparation, program design, and market negotiations

  • Serve as the main liaison with insurers and underwriters for specialty marine risks, maintaining strong market relationships

  • Participate in client and prospect meetings as a subject matter expert, contributing to retention and growth

  • Provide consultative support to producers and account executives on strategy, coverage structure, and market trends

  • Assist in claims strategy discussions and advocacy where required, collaborating with internal claims and legal teams

  • Contribute to proposal development, marketing materials, and presentations for key clients and prospects

  • Remain current on marine market developments, global trends, and emerging exposures relevant to the CRU portfolio

What You’ll Need for Success

  • Valid RIBO license (or ability to obtain in short order)

  • 10+ years of commercial insurance experience with a strong focus on marine & cargo (domestic and multinational risks)

  • Deep technical knowledge of marine products including cargo, hull & machinery, shipbuilder’s risk, freight liability, and warehousing exposures

  • Proven track record of successfully placing and managing complex insurance programs across multiple jurisdictions

  • Excellent negotiation skills and well-established insurer relationships in marine markets

  • Experience advising large clients or risk managers on placement strategy, coverage gaps, and claims trends

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence presenting to clients and insurers

  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to work independently while collaborating across functions

  • Familiarity with broker systems (e.g., Applied EPIC) and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
