About the Team:

AGF Investments is looking for a Derivatives Portfolio Manager / Trader to join our Investment Management team. Currently, the Derivatives team is responsible for managing AGF’s options focused funds and option overlays valued at over $7 billion and spread over a variety of strategies to include direct portfolios, income enhancement, and hedging.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Professionally Manage Existing Mandates: Provide backup to our existing derivatives portfolio manager, to include alpha generation, risk management and trading.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise: Analyze, generate and propose trade ideas to add alpha to assigned portfolios, transform risks through hedging, provide access to differentiated return streams, provide alternatives to cash market exposures, provide solutions that efficiently employ capital and leverage, and engineer desired outcomes through sophisticated derivatives combinations by identifying mispricing in derivatives markets, highlight relative value trades, and execute within the boundaries of mandate suitability and constraints.

  • Deliver Best Execution of Derivative Trades: Evaluate all aspects of derivative trading to include broker selection and counterparty evaluation to ensure best execution in all derivatives transactions.

  • Elevate the Level of Derivatives Expertise at the Firm: Develop new tools for sophisticated analysis, provide research into new strategies, add to the array of derivative instruments available to portfolio managers to select from. Collaborate closely with all investment professionals to ensure we are managing our clients’ assets with the highest level of skill and expertise with regards to derivatives.

  • Provide Thoughtful Insights Between Cash and Derivatives Markets: Monitor the market and communicate factors that impact portfolio’s buy and sell decisions. This includes understanding economic fundamentals, supply and demand dynamics, seasonal events and technical factors that drive the derivatives markets. Communicate derivatives market positioning and how it impacts portfolios.

  • Develop an Elite Derivatives Capability at AGF: Constantly push the organization to strive to develop and enhance our derivatives capabilities.

Your Qualifications:

  • Experience: Experience: 3-5+ years of listed/OTC options sales/trading/execution/analysis experience of a wide array of derivative instruments (options, futures, swaps) and asset classes (equities, currencies and fixed income)

  • Working knowledge of North American options markets and good understanding of option pricing, option Greeks, option market dynamics including liquidity constraints, how derivatives contracts impact and alter the return dynamics of a portfolio either via hedging, income enhancement or taking risk bets.

  • Experience in operational side of derivative usage to include contract analysis, counterparty assessment, valuation determination, exposure measurement, collateral management, clearing and settlement issues.

  • Masters in quantitative finance or financial economics with derivatives focus ideal.

  • Prior equity portfolio management experience a positive.

  • Financial & accounting background a plus

  • Canadian certification in Futures, Options and Derivatives with tup-to-date experiential requirements preferred.

  • Coding skills are an asset (Python, SQL)
