JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Manages complex investigations of claims, including coverage, liability, and damages evaluations.
  • Implements appropriate resolution strategies on claims.
  • Effectively manages indemnity and claim expenses on intermediate to complex claims.
  • Directs all types of investigative activity or litigation on intermediate to complex claims and ensures adequate and timely reserves are set. Consults and collaborates with panel counsel with respect to litigation strategy.
  • Directs and engages in the negotiation of complex settlement packages to drive cost effective and timely settlements.
  • Utilizes oral presentation and writing skills to escalate or efficiently communicate appropriate exposures to senior claims management and other internal business partners, as needed.
  • Keeps current on provincial/ federal regulations and industry issues and trends. May represent company in industry trade groups or other important events involving external business partners and clients.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to less experienced claims staff and other functional areas.
  • Responsible for special claims projects and presentations.
  • Assist with the development of Specialty policy language.
  • Attend regular underwriting account meetings with internal team, brokers, and insureds.
  • Identifies trends in complex claims and settlement strategies and communicates to senior management.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Recognized technical and product specific expertise within Specialty Lines of Business including Public and Private D&O, Professional liability, EPL and Cyber.
  • Claims resolution skills and knowledge of insurance and claims principles.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
  • Ability to embrace change and value diverse opinions and ideas.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and relevant claims experience with a minimum of 10 years of commercial property and casualty claims handling experience.
  • Typically a minimum eight years claims experience.
