About this PositionWe are looking for a Claims Manager to join our Claims department.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee claims processing to ensure procedures are followed and standards are adhered to
  • Supervise, mentor and train Claim Adjusters
  • Approve claims payments over the claim adjusters’ limits
  • Audit claims payments set up by adjusters on a daily basis
  • Approve denials of Waiver of Premium, Life Claims and Terminal Illness
  • Research and respond to all general claim inquiries
  • Distribute daily workflow for claims adjusters
  • Complete Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reports for finance 
  • Manage all issues relating to claims litigation – Liaison with Vice President General Counsel, file summary, attendance at Examination for discovery
  • Manage all issues pertaining to the running of the claims department
  • Assist in business requirement definition, testing and implementation of system enhancements
  • Upkeep claims policies and procedures
  • Provide assistance and support to the VP of Life Insurance Operations
  • Provide administrative backup to management
  • Miscellaneous duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of senior claims adjudication and minimum 2 year of management experience
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology, pre-existing conditions, material misrepresentation and provincial insurance regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including well developed interpersonal & relationship-building skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent research and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient with various MS Office applications, with intermediate knowledge of Excel
  • Bilingualism would be considered an asset
