Lead a team managing exchange connectivity software, focusing on efficient code, continuous improvement, and supporting junior members. Oversee high volume, low latency data processes and collaborate with DevOps to enhance automation.
About the Role
We are looking for an amazing technical team lead to guide one of teams managing our exchange connectivity software.
Market Data powers all of Morningstar, as well as our clients so having the best of technology to do this is critical to the company's success. We receive billions of messages every day from our direct financial exchange connections, which we process into a form useable by our customers. At present, we process over 40 billion messages per day and with data volumes significantly increasing year-on-year, you can imagine how this needs a high level of engineering skill to keep it under control.
You will need to lead an agile, multi-functional team of developers and testers to build and maintain our exchange connectivity components. You'll need to be happy working in short cycles, with frequent deliveries while improving the overall quality of the development process.
Job Responsibilities
Lead a team of approx. 3 developers and 2 QA, focused on building and maintaining our exchange connectivity software. As well as working hands-on with the code, you'll need to support the team in working as efficiently as possible and delivering frequently. This will require you to be rigorous in writing efficient code and encourage continuous improvement of how we build, test and deploy our system. There will be some out-of-hours 3rd line support, but we try to keep this to a minimum as we have a dedicated operations team who handle most issues.
Some key examples of the sort of work the team does:
+ Data feed development for high volume low latency exchange connections
+ Development and maintenance of key libraries used by the entire team
+ Development of key underlying transport protocols for transmission of data
+ Working with DevOps to improve automation in the development cycle
Qualifications
+ A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a software development or similar essential.
+ Experienced in C/C++ development (Typically a minimum of 5 years)
+ Extensive experienced with current communication protocols (specifically TCP/IP and multicast)
+ Experience of development on Windows platforms
+ Experience of the full software development lifecycle
+ A background of leading, supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team
Nice to have
+ Knowledge of automated testing and deployment techniques used in a CI/CD environment
Morningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to collaborate in-person each week as we've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis. In most of our locations, our hybrid work model is four days in-office each week. A range of other benefits are also available to enhance flexibility as needs change. No matter where you are, you'll have tools and resources to engage meaningfully with your global colleagues.
