Generate qualified sales pipeline through targeted outbound prospecting to CFOs, risk managers, and insurance broker principals. Responsibilities include account research, multi-channel outreach via email, phone, and LinkedIn, lightweight qualification, CRM maintenance, clean handoffs to Account Executives, and reporting market feedback. The role requires a tenacious, analytical, entrepreneurial self-starter who can learn captive insurance and financial services concepts quickly while consistently meeting activity and pipeline targets.
About Luzern Risk
Luzern Risk is a fast-growing insurance technology startup focused on transforming risk into a strategic asset. We're revolutionizing the captive management industry by giving clients the technology and expertise to control their own risk financing. We are a passionate, driven team excited to solve hard problems and build an industry-defining company.
This is a high-energy, front-of-the-funnel sales role for a natural hunter. As a foundational Business Development Representative, your mission is to fill the pipeline: researching the companies that should have a captive, reaching the CFOs, risk managers, and broker principals who can act on it, and converting cold accounts into qualified meetings our Account Executives close. Captives are a considered purchase made by sophisticated buyers, so the outreach that wins is researched, specific, and credible, and you will run it at scale with AI-native tooling a legacy team could not match.
This is a role for a driven self-starter who wants a fast path to a closing seat and to be generously rewarded for the pipeline they create.
- Pipeline Generation: Own a monthly target for qualified meetings booked and pipeline created via targeted outbound prospecting. This is the number the seat exists to hit.
- Account Research & Targeting: Build and prioritize target account lists against our ideal customer profile using firmographic data, intent signals, and industry knowledge, and multi-thread into accounts rather than betting on one contact.
- Multi-Channel Outreach: Run personalized sequences across email, phone, and LinkedIn. Write outreach a CFO reads: specific to their business and clear about why a captive is worth an hour of their time.
- Qualification & Handoff: Run lightweight discovery to confirm fit, need, and authority before a meeting reaches an Account Executive's calendar, then hand off cleanly with the context to win.
- CRM & Pipeline Hygiene: Keep the CRM accurate and current. Honest data at the top of the funnel is what makes the whole commercial engine trustworthy.
- Market Feedback: Report what works and what does not (messaging, objections, personas, channels) so your experiments become the documented playbook the team runs.
- A Tenacious Hunter: A relentless drive to open doors and thick skin for the volume game. Rejection reads to you as information, not injury, and you do not need applause to keep going.
- Intellectual Agility: A quick study who can rapidly learn a complex product. Captive insurance is technical, and our buyers can tell within two sentences whether you understand it.
- Sharp Communication: Concise, specific, fluff-free writing and the phone presence to engage senior finance and insurance buyers with credibility.
- Ownership & Urgency: A bias for action, accountability for your number, and the initiative to run your book like a system: prioritized accounts, clean follow-ups, nothing dropped.
- An Entrepreneurial Builder: Excited to be early, help write the outbound playbook rather than inherit one, and earn the first shot at an Account Executive seat as the team scales.
- Rigor & Excellence: Committed to a high-feedback culture of continuous improvement, applying coaching fast and pushing back with evidence when the data says the playbook is wrong.
Requirements
- 1-3 years in an outbound or target-driven role (BDR/SDR, inside sales, recruiting, brokerage, or similar); exceptional early-career candidates with clear evidence of drive will be considered.
- A track record against activity, meeting, or pipeline targets that you can substantiate.
- Comfort with CRM and sales engagement tooling, and real fluency using AI tools in your daily workflow.
- Experience or strong interest in financial services, insurance, enterprise SaaS, or fintech; direct captive exposure is a plus, not a requirement.
- Hybrid role, located in NYC.
The base pay range for this role is $60,000 – $120,000 per year.
