Job Description

Role Summary

As an Associate in the Private Equity Funds team, you will be responsible for conducting analysis and research, supporting investment execution and process management, contributing to strategy development, and monitoring portfolio positions and external relationships.

The Funds team is focused on helping Associates develop a well-rounded skill set that includes: (i) a strong quantitative and analytical base; (ii) critical thinking and investment judgement; and (iii) leadership and communications skills within a dynamic team setting.

Team Summary

Private Equity Funds, which sits within the Private Equity Department, manages more than $70 billion in carrying value and unfunded commitments, and maintains relationships with approximately 40 core funds and more than 100+ legacy and prospective new funds. The Funds group focuses on executing fund commitments ($100 million - $1 billion) and passive co-investments (<$150 million) alongside existing private equity sponsors in North America and Europe that will generate outsized returns and drive direct deal flow for the rest of the organization.

Accountabilities:

  • Research, analyze and execute fund commitments and direct equity co-investments alongside private equity firms
  • Balance multiple deal teams at a given time in a supporting role
  • Support senior team members in building relationships with private equity firms, limited partners, and other market participants in connection with origination, due diligence and post-investment monitoring
  • Actively participate in investment committee meetings by presenting new investment opportunities and taking part in the discussion of transactions brought forward by other deal teams
  • Utilize proprietary and third-party data sources to conduct market analysis, new investment research, portfolio monitoring exercises and other similar activities
  • Collaborate with other teams across the Private Equity Department, and occasionally other asset classes, to deliver strategic projects which advance CPP Investments’ long-term priorities

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of related work experience (e.g., investment banking, consulting, private equity, venture capital, etc.)
  • Excellent research, financial modeling, analytical and valuation skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems and communicate solutions to senior team members
  • A base level understanding of the private equity ecosystem
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • A willingness to travel
