What You’ll Be Doing 

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital and grow and invest actively throughout North America and key financial centres around the world. To deliver on its vision to be our clients’ preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services, both in Canada and where our core competencies can be exported.  The Capital Markets mission is to bring Canadian Capital Markets products to Canada and the rest of the world and also bring the world to Canada.

How You’ll Succeed 

  • Research – As a research associate, the incumbent will work closely with our fundamental research analysts and the quantitative/technical analyst teams. The associate will develop in-depth knowledge of financial analysis, covered industries and the capital markets. In the role, they will gain valuable experience in gathering information, researching companies and industries using primary, secondary and alternative sources, and recognizing and analyzing industry trends. In addition, the associate will collaborate with the research technical analyst on research projects, ad-hoc timely reports, as well as multiple back-tested portfolio and investment strategies. The associate will also actively write reports, explore opportunities to leverage AI tools in our research processes and help enhance our data management capabilities.

  • Client Focus - In cooperation with the Research Analysts they will participate in regular calls with public companies to get direct data from the senior management teams, as well as ad hoc calls, meetings and industry events. The position also provides the opportunity to liaise with our Sales, Trading, Investment Banking colleagues and clients as required.

 

Who You Are 

  • You possess an Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Economics, or Financial Engineering.  An MBA or advanced degree would be an asset. Please include a writing sample along with your cover letter, resume and transcripts (if recent graduate). At a minimum, we are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in the capital markets industry, demonstrated through school courses, clubs and/or related work experience.

  • You are technically savvy. Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, R, VBA, C#, C++ or other programming languages. You can demonstrate excellent knowledge of PC applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) Experience with Bloomberg functionalities would be an asset.

  • You're motivated by collective success . Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with internal and external clients.

  • You know that details matter . Excellent analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to complete and explain detailed financial and statistical analysis.  Strong multi-tasking and time management skills. Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment. Demonstrated interest in the capital markets industry through school courses, clubs and/or related work experience.
