Job Description:

Associate Director, Investment Operations, Portfolio Management – SLC Management

What is in it for you:

The role is accountable for oversight, co-ordination and execution of investment and treasury activities across a group of subsidiary entities that invest on behalf of the Sun Life General account. Co-ordinating with SLC Front Office, Legal, Accounting, Derivatives and Operations teams this role will be central to all activity between the subsidiary and the parent, as well as the investing activity of the subsidiary.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead execution (setup, closing, funding and accounting) for new investments being added to the entities under the guidance of senior management.
  • Monitor the full portfolio of cash and investments in the entities and recommend actions as required to manage liquidity against prospective investment demands.
  • Co-ordinate cash movement into and out of the entities to meet new funding and investment needs.
  • Co-ordinate currency hedging activity with SLC derivative desk and monitor ongoing foreign currency exposure, recommending action when required.
  • Ongoing monitoring and reporting of investment performance to key stakeholders within the Office of the CIO team.
  • Use investment performance to recommend appropriate interest rate setting for loans into entities (interest rate reviewed annually), under the guidance of senior management.
  • Reporting and forecasting of activity in the entities to SLF ALM and other groups as required.
  • Co-ordinate with SLC Legal and Finance, along with SLF Tax, to ensure appropriate documentation for all activity in the entities.
  • Provide support to SLC Finance and Operations to ensure investment activity is recorded correctly and financial statements of each entity are accurate.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

  • Knowledge of broad asset classes, particularly real estate, private equity and private fixed income
  • Experience with cash management/treasury functions is beneficial
  • Strong process management and organization skills
  • Problem solver who is confident in recommending actions

Preferred Skills: 

  • 5+ years of experience in the investment industry
  • Pursuing or completed CFA designation is recommended

SLC Management is a regulated business, and this means that there are certain financial reporting and trading preclearance requirements for all employees. Successful candidates will be required to declare personal investment accounts and securities investments as well as seek preclearance on future transactions including those of household members.

Salary Range

84,000/84 000 - 126,000/126 000
