WHAT’S AN ASSOCIATE CREATIVE DIRECTOR (COPY) AT HOOK?

Associate Creative Directors (Copy) solve marketing challenges with an emphasis on client relationship building and team management. With an experienced fluency in marketing, media, production, and the internet, they address business needs by leading teams of artists and engineers through a collaborative creative process toward the goal of generating successful advertising solutions to complex marketing challenges. 

Organizationally, ACDs are fixed to brands groups where they work to build lasting relationships with clients and client products through consistent partnership and continued campaign success. The combination of gained client trust and retained brand knowledge enables them to direct individuals, teams, and campaigns from a position of earned authority. 

A great ACD (Copy) is an experienced and articulate copywriter with a strong understanding of art direction. This allows them to effectively guide clients and internal teams through the development of multiple simultaneous campaigns. They are highly collaborative, capable of inspiring great work from less experienced teams while generating trust and excitement within client relationships. They are a positive source of inspiration that is universally relied upon for creative thinking, problem solving, and mentorship 

On this team at Hook you will work with a large tech client driving awareness and usage of new products and services. Primarily focusing on the brands digital presence (websites, social campaigns, brand launches, new product features) this role will require strategic and innovative thinking to bring unique solutions to market for products used by billions of people. This role will be partnered with an ACD (Art) as well as working closely with design, motion, creatives and producers to bring ideas to life. 

This is a fully remote role, but please be aware that most of the team and our client are based on the West Coast.  Therefore, you must be comfortable working primarily during PST business hours. Occasional travel may be required.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead (with a very hands-on approach) the development of insightfully driven creative concepts and their production to the point of exceeding client expectations 
  • This particular position requires a deep emphasis on copywriting with strong strategic and narrative approach to creative 
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with all relevant client contacts, becoming an expert on brand culture, politics, products, preferences, and expectations
  • Lead the development and presentation of pitch materials for all major and complex campaigns associated with a brand or brand group 
  • Ensure the highest possible quality of all strategic, creative, and design deliverables within the scope of one or more brand relationships 
  • Elevate overall work quality by setting increasingly high standards and articulating ambitious creative opportunities (without sacrificing baseline deliverable requirements)
  • Maintain a positive relationship with both Art and Production staff, ensuring that concepts meet the requirements of both departments
  • Maintain and promote an internal awareness of industry creative trends and standards with a strong focus on narrative tone and ideation.
  • Mentor and support junior creative staff toward the goal of accelerating skill progression through a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing 
  • Manage at least one direct report and be instrumental in their development
  • Promote a positive creative culture through teamwork and leading by example 


WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 8+ years of creative agency or production company experience working toward the creation and development of successful ad campaigns
  • 5+ years of experience of short form and long form copywriting for large brands across digital mediums
  • 2+ years of people management and/or project leading with a passion for mentoring and developing people
  • An extensive portfolio of thoughtful work that successfully addresses complex marketing challenges across a range of tones and industry types
  • Experience in copywriting for national or global brands is required, ideally with some experience in tech and product features. Agency experience, or equivalent, is also necessary.
  • Have innovative ideas for budgets both big and small
  • Ability to conceptualize ideas for various key audiences, especially Gen Z
  • Deep understanding of products UI and be able to translate that into a compelling storytelling tool
  • A proactive mindset towards solving the client’s challenges and driving work forward.
  • Ability to work Pacific Standard Time (PST)
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for video shoots and other events (estimated at less than 10% of the year). Overnight travel may be expected.
