Your Role
Reporting to the VP Finance, the Assistant Controller plays a key role in ensuring accurate, reliable, and scalable financial operations. This role oversees financial reporting, strengthens internal controls, and drives continuous improvement across accounting processes and systems.
This is a hands on role within a growing organization, suited to an experienced Assistant Controller seeking broader operational exposure and a path toward a future Controller position.
Your Responsibilities Include:
Financial Reporting and Accounting Oversight
- Oversee the integrity and completeness of financial records and reporting
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, as applicable
- Support multi entity consolidation and foreign currency translation
- Review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses
- Oversee month end close and reporting processes
- Partner with the accounting team to resolve reporting issues
Audit and External Relationships
- Serve as day to day contact for external auditors
- Coordinate audit deliverables and support audit planning
- Maintain documentation to ensure audit readiness
- Support interactions with external advisors as needed
Internal Controls and Process Improvement
- Assess accounting processes and internal controls
- Implement scalable improvements to workflows and controls
- Develop and maintain process documentation and SOPs
- Drive continuous improvement across accounting operations
Systems and Operational Improvements
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and data flows
- Leverage NetSuite, Vena, and other systems to improve efficiency
- Partner with internal stakeholders to align operational and accounting processes
Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Partner with accounting team members to improve workflows
- Provide guidance on accounting approaches and processes
- Support team development and evolving organizational needs
- Provide mentorship to junior accounting staff
Finance Partnership
- Support the VP Finance in scaling the finance function
- Participate in cross functional initiatives impacting financial operations
Your Experience So Far:
- CPA designation with strong accounting fundamentals
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in financial reporting
- Meaningful experience in financial reporting with exposure to IFRS
- Experience overseeing accounting processes in a complex or growing organization
- Experience in a manufacturing and/or SaaS business environment is an asset
- Public practice background is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to assess processes and implement improvements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Experience with ERP systems in multi-entity environments. Familiarity with NetSuite is an asset
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to operate with autonomy and proactively improve finance operations
Location and Compensation:
This is a hybrid role with flexibility to work remotely, however candidates must be based within a commutable distance of our Vancouver, BC office to support in person collaboration when required.
The salary range for this role is set at $110,000 to $130,000 commensurate with experience.
