About the role:

Burson Canada is looking for an Assistant Consultant to join our dynamic Consumer & Brand team in Toronto. If you are interested in joining a team of passionate brand builders and work on some of the world’s most well-respected brands (adidas, Google, YouTube, KitchenAid and Lindt are just a few), we want to hear from you. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your career within the Consumer PR space, while also working alongside an ambitious and energetic national team.

Our ideal candidate is resourceful go-getter, tapped into emerging social trends and culture, and takes charge of assigned tasks. Assistant Consultants support client teams on a wide range of activities including media relations, writing, event planning, influencer relations, research, media monitoring and liaising with clients.

Here’s what you’d be doing:

  • Supporting client teams on the day-to-day execution of campaigns (media relations, events, sponsored content, influencer, partnerships, etc).
  • Compiling media lists, pitch materials and conducting media relations to secure coverage.   
  • Building relationships with media and influencers and staying on top of changes in the industry.
  • Monitoring traditional and social media platforms, preparing reports using customized tools for clients, and developing insights and recommendations based on findings. 
  • Keeping an eye on emerging trends in social and culture, sharing those insights internally and with clients.
  • Contributing creativity, passion and expertise to an entrepreneurial team environment where everyone’s voice is heard, highly valued and rewarded

What you’ll need to get here:

  • Preferably a minimum of one year of work experience in a communications role (internship/volunteer experience applicable)
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited post-secondary educational institution 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills 
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills 
  • High attention to detail 
  • The ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work accordingly 
  • An understanding of both traditional PR and social program execution
