Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Area Leader - Weld Engineering will support the weld team and ensure that they have a safe environment to work in. They work diligently to ensure that Formet Industries is producing and shipping a quality product. They will communicate between Formet Industries, the suppliers and the customers, and work towards resolution on any supplier or customer weld concerns. They will lead the continuous improvement drive through effective problem solving, benchmarking new technologies and processes and mentoring the team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering / Welding discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing welding field.
  • Knowledge and exposure to IATF 16949, AIAG Core Tools and Customer Weld Requirements / Audits (CQI-15) is an asset.
  • Leadership experience in the Automotive Field is an asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integrity and value-driven working style that follows and abides by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
  • Supervises technical and nontechnical employees in accordance with the principles of the Employee Charter and the policies and procedures set out in the Formet Handbook and Area Leader's Manual.
  • Supports Employee Relations
  • Attend and / or champion meetings.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, environmental regulations and responsible for the Health and Safety of your team.
  • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Formet Expectations and Formet's Visions/Values through Magna's Employee Charter.
  • Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Completion of payroll, vacation and overtime scheduling for your team.
  • Provide feedback and performance reviews regularly.
  • Directly responsible for the Health and Safety of your team.
  • Conduct safety talks and communicate safety bulletins.
  • Train Team Members on the specific job hazards.
  • Facilitate Accident and Incident Investigations.
  • Enforce safety rules and correct unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to achieve results.
  • Provide / arrange coverage for absenteeism and overtime.
  • Support the Liaisons with weld quality concerns at the customer/supplier plants.
  • Travel to customer/supplier on any shift to support and assess concerns.
  • Support weld team participation in the investigation and resolution of all customer and supplier concerns.
  • Understand time and resources required for support of APQP activities, and generating PPAP packages.
  • Direct & monitor implementation of all documentation for new products to ensure timeline is met for production readiness.
  • Lead the weld group and production support team to successful closure of weld issues and on time exit from safe launch.
  • Responsible for the daily activities of the Weld group.
  • Support in the updates, revisions, implementation and archiving of weld records.
  • Monitor the successful completion of daily batch & hold processes.
  • Support the training of production personnel in all weld quality requirements.
  • Ensure support is provided for all departments with any quality/welding concern.
  • Develop meaningful KPIs that will drive Standard Work, Safety & Accountability.
  • Support and follow through on completion of tasks / projects, PMR's and CIP's.
  • Team specific meetings complete to schedule - follow up on tasks.
  • Perform other duties as designated.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office and Manufacturing Environments.
  • Travel on short notice.
  • Able to work shift work.
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)


SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING:

  • Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A.
  • Follow and ensure the company's procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
  • Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Formet's safety rules and regulations.
  • Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example.
  • Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
  • As with Safety, Security is everyone's responsibility and Formet requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
