Headway’s mission is a big one – to build a new mental health care system everyone can access. We’ve built technology that helps people find great therapists with the first software-enabled national network of providers accepting insurance.

1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the majority of providers don’t accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice.

Headway was founded in 2019. Since then, we’ve grown into a diverse, national network of over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software and have served over 1 million patients. We’re a Series D company with over $325m in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures and Health Care Service Corporation.

We want your time here to be the most meaningful experience of your career. Join us, and help change mental healthcare for the better.

About the role:
Headway is seeking an AP Manager to own the accounts payable function and build scalable, efficient processes that support accurate financial reporting and audit readiness. In this role, you’ll manage AP operations, month-end close, reconciliations, and audit support while partnering cross-functionally to optimize workflows and vendor management. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual to drive accuracy, efficiency, and scalability across the AP function.

You will:

  • Lead end-to-end AP operations including invoice processing, approvals, payments, accruals, and prepaids to ensure timely and accurate posting to the GL.
  • Own month-end and year-end close procedures for AP, including reconciliations and cut-off controls, reducing post-close adjustments and supporting a clean trial balance.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain audit-ready PBCs and serve as the primary AP subject matter expert for external auditors such as KPMG.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to scale AP workflows, reduce manual effort, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting and FP&A to support accrual accuracy, cash forecasting, and timely resolution of vendor issues.
  • Build standardized AP procedures and expectations, with future opportunity to mentor and manage additional AP resources as the function scales.
  • Enhance automation and process efficiency by leveraging AI tools to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve accuracy and scalability across operations

You’d be a great fit if:

  • You have 6+ years of accounting experience with 3+ years managing AP operations in a high-growth or complex environment (healthcare, fintech, or SaaS preferred).
  • Proven experience with month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Strong knowledge of AP-related US GAAP (expense recognition, accruals, prepaids) and internal controls.
  • Hands-on operator who can implement scalable processes and drive automation initiatives.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate with cross-functional partners and vendors.
  • Passionate about building reliable, efficient AP processes and developing team capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Ramp, with the ability to optimize workflows and reporting within these systems.
  • A curiosity into using AI tools and a dedication to leveraging AI for process automation and efficiency.

Compensation and Benefits:

The expected base pay range for this position is $110,400- $172,500, based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for an equity grant, depending on the position and level.

We are committed to offering a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package, including robust health and wellness benefits, retirement savings, and meaningful ownership opportunities through equity. Compensation decisions are made holistically, ensuring fairness and alignment with market benchmarks while recognizing individual contributions and potential.
