This analyst position reports to the Director, Global Hedging – Variable and Indexed-Linked Product Operation and Reporting, Global Derivative Services. The Analyst supports the ongoing operational and reporting requirements of Global Variable Annuity and Indexed-Linked Products Hedging program and other general funds hedging programs at Manulife. 

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Validate daily trading parameters and ensure the liabilities sensitivities are accurate. Make sure intraday risk monitoring system operates properly.

  • Oversee the liability generating system and all end-of-day processes, which are used as inputs to the intraday risk monitoring system and all subsequent liability reporting processes.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of data framework within the VA and IUL hedging databases and file servers, providing insight as needed.

  • Implement parametric updates on a scheduled or ad hoc basis as requested by Business Units.

Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Execute the daily Performance Attribution reports for the dynamic hedging program, which decompose the hedging asset and liability profit and loss movements into discreet buckets.

  • Generate daily performance attribution report timely using PowerBI dashboard.

  • Identify issues and address causes, with an ability to resolve issues in a timely manner and establish short-term and long-term enhancements solutions.

  • Prepare additional daily and quarterly reporting as required.

  • Develop ad hoc reports for business units, leveraging knowledge of the VA and IUL hedging data warehouse and understanding of the VA and IUL hedging programs.

  • Conduct user acceptance testing on new versions and upgrades to existing reporting infrastructure.

  • Support the development of new report features or report enhancements and analytics as needed.

  • Strengthen data quality through automation initiatives and improved control processes.

  • Complete quarterly hedge effectiveness assessments.

  • Perform quarterly revaluation of hedging assets.

  • Reconcile the Performance Attribution reports with Accounting General Ledger on a quarterly basis, identify driving forces of discrepancy and quantify the impacts.

General Responsibilities:

  • Integrate knowledge of the hedging liability, asset and data systems used by VA and IUL hedging to provide insight and analysis of VA and IUL hedging performance.

  • Present the key drivers affecting report results in weekly meetings with Global Risk Oversight team.

  • Collaborate with Global Hedging – Variable and Indexed-Linked Products, Equity Risk Oversight, and IT Support teams on projects which require team efforts.

  • Contribute within a team environment to improve the operations, accuracy, timeliness and usefulness of the reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business related disciplines.

  • Advanced skills in MS Office suites, especially VBA programming skills.

  • Knowledge of SQL database and Findur.

  • Previous experience with PowerBI is an asset.

  • Strong analytical and communications skills (both oral and written).

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Salary range is expected to be between

$62,850.00 CAD - $104,750.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
