Location: This is a hybrid role with a minimum in-office requirement of 3 days per week in the Ottawa, ON office located at 40 Hines Rd, Ottawa, ON K2K 2M5.


Position Summary:

Are you a skilled AI expert looking for a new challenge?

Trend Micro is a world-leading cybersecurity company building AI applications and services and securing them to make the AI-driven world a safer place. We're looking for an AI Model Developer to design, build, and optimize advanced machine learning and AI systems.

As AI applications are increasingly becoming popular for their practical uses, so too are malicious actors exploiting their vulnerabilities. You'll work across the full ML lifecycle — from research and prototyping to high-performance deployment — helping us push the boundaries of AI innovation while advancing the state of the art in securing AI applications. This is a technical role that will require solid foundational math and top-notch programming skills in many areas of AI and ML, including low-level hardware programming skills such as CUDA.

Responsibilities:

As a AI Security Analytics Developer you will:

  • Design and implement innovative AI/ML models for cybersecurity applications

  • Build end-to-end ML pipelines (data preparation → training → deployment)

  • Develop, implement, document and optimize machine learning algorithms, fine-tuning LLMs, pipelines and workflows

  • Research and apply LLMs, multimodal learning, and emerging AI trends in cybersecurity

  • Optimize models for speed, accuracy, and scalability using TensorRT, Quantization, and custom kernel programming

  • Benchmark workloads and write inference pipelines for performance

  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and deliver impactful AI solutions

  • Research latest developments in AI/ML such as large language models (LLM), reinforcement learning, GPUs, etc., and share your knowledge with the team

Qualifications:

Core Skills & Expertise

  • Expert knowledge in machine learning theory and demonstrated experience with AI/ML applications

  • Deep understanding of ML theory and practical applications

  • Experience developing or fine-tuning large language models (e.g., Llama, BERT, T5) and in optimizing model inference

  • Proficiency in popular ML frameworks such asTensorFlow, TensorRT, PyTorch, CUDA, NumPy, Pandas, etc.

  • Familiar with MLOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills — can explain complex ideas simply

  • Enables and influences the team by having team-first mindset

  • Leadership and mentorship mindset

  • Problem-solving skills with creativity and curiosity

  • Passion for staying ahead in the fast-moving AI space

Specializations

  • Time-series forecasting

  • Graph Neural Networks (GNNs)

  • Model optimization and deployment

  • Task-specific/small language models

Bonus Skills

  • Reinforcement Learning (RL) and experience with RL frameworks (veRL, SkyRL, Ray RLlib)

  • ML applications in cybersecurity

  • Experience with Rust for high-performance systems

Education

  • Master's in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field

  • Equivalent professional experience also considered

For applicants in the province of Ontario, Trend Micro Canada is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary for this role is CAD $114,000.00 - $142,000.00. A candidate’s final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors to include, but not limited to relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
