As a Legal and Recover Advisor, you are responsible for the recovery of bad debt, including locating debtors using advanced tools, assessing risks, and referring accounts for further legal action. You will assist in legal research, documentation, and enforcement actions to facilitate garnishment, and collections while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of the legal process, excellent analytical and investigative skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, adaptive environment.

A regular day for an Advisor, Legal and Recovery will include:
- Assist in skip tracing investigations to locate debtors and assess financial status.
- Support legal strategy for garnishment, and asset recovery.
- Conduct legal research and prepare court briefs and Notices of Garnishment.
- Follow up on judgment execution, including garnishments and repossessions.
- Attend Settlement Hearings, as needed.
- Assess and escalate legal and financial risks to the Legal and Recovery Manager.
- Draft and review legal pleadings, including but limited to, Plaintiff’s Claims, Notice of Garnishment and motion pleadings.
- Prepare and track warranty rebates for financial recovery.
- Adhere to company policies and assist in refining best practices for legal asset recovery.
- Perform additional legal support duties as assigned.
- Communicate with external legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders as required.
- Ensure compliance with PIPEDA, The Privacy Act, and industry regulations.

Must haves!
- Comprehensive knowledge of collections and skip tracing, including excellent analytical, research, and investigative skills.
- Strong understanding of the legal process as it relates to collections.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write detailed reports.
- Discreet and comfortable handling sensitive information.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- Solid attention to detail, time management, and advanced problem-solving skills.
- Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, adaptive environment.
- Ability to collaborate well with various teams and departments.
- Experience with Small Claims Court procedures and legal document drafting
- Good math skills with the ability to perform basic calculations quickly.
Extra- awesome to have:
- 2+ years of prior experience in at least one of the following core areas: Small Claims Court Procedures; investigations, skip tracing, consumer collections and/or consumer loan industry considered an asset
- 3-5 years of experience in charge off collections, asset recovery, or financial enforcement
- Some University and/or College education in Paralegal Studies including holding a Paralegal License with the Law Society is considered an asset
