Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Accounting Manager, Operations will play a pivotal role within our North American accounting team. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of our operations. This position will have accounting ownership of assigned retail products and will oversee members of the offshore Accounting team, supporting the month-end accounting cycle, audits and the preparation and/or review of journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of third-party fee products (i.e. Western Union, Mastercard), consumer lending, related bank accounts and other ancillary products.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Oversight of the accounting for the company’s fee products, assigned consumer lending products and related bank accounts
- Contribute to Accounting requirements related to systems and reporting for new products
- Review/test new products flowing through internal systems to the general ledger
- Lead or participate as Accounting representative in cross-functional and departmental meetings
- Participate in department planning, contribute ideas toward team development focused on better serving the business
- Ensure the integrity of accounting information through timely journal entry preparation, journal entry review, variance analyses and resolution of account variances
- Timely preparation and/or review of month end account reconciliations
- Respond to questions from other internal departments as well as liaise with select external parties
- Assist with assessing and monitoring internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements towards a quicker month-end close while maintaining accounting integrity
- Responsible for analytics or projects in support of executives and operations management as assigned
- Establish monitoring and enforcing company’s policy, procedures and internal controls
- Contribute to preparing/reviewing audit support
Management Accountabilities
- Provide coaching and direction on work issues as required. Set team goals and review achievements on a monthly basis
- Staff development, training, coaching, recruitment and retention of all team members
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with team members when addressing problems and providing solutions
- Responsible for creating and revising Standard Operating Procedures as needed
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA designation preferred
EXPERIENCE
- 6-8 years general accounting experience
- 2-5 years supervisory experience
- Proficient with US GAAP and internal controls
SKILLS
- Ability to apply critical thinking, analyze information and establish resolution plan
- Able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify quality solutions
- Strong organization; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines
- Must be able to perform with a high level of accuracy under tight time constraints, execute assignments and set direction rather than require direction.
- Ability to handle large datasets, complex GL strings and multiple entities/currencies
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot table, vlookups and filtering experience)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Comfortable with change and fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with Oracle ERP system a plus
