The Harris Poll, a global consulting and market research firm, part of Stagwell Inc., is looking for an Accounting Controller to join our team based in Toronto. The Controller will manage and coordinate the financial administration of the company’s Canadian and US entities. The position will ensure the timely preparation of monthly financial statements, reconciliations, analysis and support the budget process including special projects. This position will directly supervise one Financial Analyst.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and coordinate the overall financial administration of the Canadian and US entities.
- Preparation and submission of monthly financial statements with full analysis and commentary to Senior Leadership
- Provide variance analysis on income and expenses as support to the monthly financial Statements.
- Maintain accounting records within the ERP system (Maconomy)
- Prepare and assist with annual audit, budget preparation and forecasts.
- Prepare and assist with month end, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and inter-company accounts.
- Oversee and provide guidance to staff, establishing goals and objectives for staff and ensuring their performance meets the expectation
- Monitor staff productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Provide training to team and new staff
- Ad Hoc reporting and perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Final year of CPA studies or CPA designation.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in working in fast paced, deadline driven accounting environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, with strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Experience overseeing daily activities and following up on results
- Excellent proficiency with productivity software, MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience in Maconomy and / or Hyperion is a plus.
- Strong skills in using accounting software applications
