About the role:
We are seeking a detailed-oriented and analytical Accounting Control Analyst to join our finance teams. You will support the Director, Accounting and Controls for Group Retirement Services, to ensure compliance and best practices are followed to strengthen, enhance and maintain the effectiveness of the overall internal control environment. The accounting control analyst will have insight into process and controls for the administration of pension plans and reporting. You will be required to understand the process and controls in place to identify risks, evaluate and report control weaknesses. This is a hands-on role to work closely with Operation, CCC, Business Development and various internal teams to complete operational risk assessment for control deficiencies, report findings and remediation plan to solve problems.
This is a one-year contract position, and this role offers you an opportunity to grow and share your experience and technical skills within a global financial institution.
What will you do?
- Identify key risks and internal controls by understanding business processes.
- Gather key information for Risk reporting to complete the Operational Risk Event (ORE) reporting template to record findings within 30 days from date identified.
- Conduct root cause assessment, to identify internal control gaps or weaknesses and develop action plan to mitigate the error.
- Analyze data and gather information from various internal team to monitor errors and corrections used to support reports for internal management reports.
- Prepare quantitative and qualitative monthly and quarterly reports of control weaknesses and action plans to internal management.
- Regulate and monitor identified controls gaps to ensure action plans are executed.
- Complete monthly ORE templates Canadian Finance and Risk reporting.
- Support the quarterly provision and accrual process to evaluate amounts at risk.
- Verify and reconcile the write off account to ensure transactions processed are valid, accurate and properly approved in the general ledger.
- Support other accounting teams with manual calculations, prepare and process journal entries into the general ledger.
- Support the fees and billing team to back fill for staff vacations for invoice production.
- Handle any ad hoc requests as needed.
What do you need to succeed?
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a Finance and/or Operations role
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in accounting operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (experience with pivot tables and V-look ups) and financial software.
- Knowledge and understanding of control framework (e.g. COSO)
- Able to effectively operate at both a big picture high level, as well as deep in the details.
- Able to understand business and operation processes to identify key risks and controls.
- Proactive and self-directed with excellent organizing, planning and time management skills.
- Excellent written and communication skills with ability to influence and manage a project.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive and self directed to meet timelines.
- Team player, ability to multi-task, detail-oriented, strong commitment to quality.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in operations processes and pension administration business is an asset.
